I am Christina Kyriakidou and I am a multidisciplinary artist whose practice involves sculpture, painting, performance and digital art media. I've been living in Glasgow since 2014 where I studied HND Visual Communication/ Illustration and BA (Hons) Contemporary Art Practice.
Inspired by Western consumerism and wastefulness, I aspire to make art that raises existential questions and addresses environmental issues. Despite me being a multidisciplinary artist that experiments with different areas of practice, I often reintroduce the use of waste in my work. I have been collecting trash from beaches and rural areas and encapsulating it in my 'Monoliths' sculptures, but have also been using rubbish as part of my outfit in street performances. Trash is seen as a direct documentation of a consumerist way of life and simultaneously, a visual representation of modern-day stress and addictions.
I have exhibited my work in the Glasgow GoMA (February 2020), WASPS Studios, The Old Hairdresser’s, Art Number 23 as well as exhibitions organised by Visual Arts Scotland and the Society of Scottish Artists. In late 2020 I also had my first solo show in my hometown, Thessaloniki Greece.
I've been wanting to open this shop for some time and since I've been selling my work for quite a while now, this felt like the next logical step to take. Pieces are made in small batches only, jewellery is made following a strict zero-waste policy (using leftover resin from sculptures). Hope you enjoy my work. Any questions, don't hesitate to message me. :)
