CMCCreations offers artisan handcrafted jewelry specializing in unique designs with origami charms and beads. The papers used to create these beautiful miniature art pieces include chiyogami Japanese paper, yuzen washi and origami paper.

My favorite origami models to fold are the Japanese peace cranes, swallow tail butterflies and various flowers. Each piece of origami takes an average of 10 - 20 minutes to fold and finish (not including drying time during the 3 coat sealing process) before it is used in the jewelery design!

Every origami jewelry piece is carefully hand folded then sealed with three coats of lacquer for excellent water resistance and durability.

To test the water resistance of the finished origami, I do a random sampling to select pieces.

To ensure the long life of you wearable origami art, as with all fine jewelry, please do not sleep, swim or sky dive in your jewelry. ;)

Avoid spraying your origami jewelry with perfume and insect repellents as the alcohol in these products could potentially damage the finish.

To clean sealed origami pieces simply brush off loose debris 1st then wipe gently, with a slightly damp, lightly soapy, soft cloth. Unsealed, matte finished origami should only be clean by brushing off any debris as wet cleaning will discolor and disfigure unsealed pieces. It is not recommended to let your origami jewelry soak in any type of liquid. Tarnished silver and silver plate metals can be gently cleaned with silver polishing cloths.

Store your origami jewelry in its protective box *after removing the cotton filling*.

All jewelry should always be stored in a low humidity location and origami jewelry is no exception. Extended storage in humid conditions can cause tarnishing of metals and can cause your origami to expand and distort over time. Extremely wet or humid conditions should be avoided when wearing origami jewelry.

If your origami jewelry becomes very wet, gently blot excess water with an absorbent paper towel or tissue and set in a warm dry location. Ensure that your origami is completely dry before storing.

What is Washi?
Washi is traditional handmade Japanese paper. It is also known as rice paper, although it is not made of rice. In fact this paper is made from the bark of several trees; the kozo, mitsumata and gampi. Rather than being processed to a fine thin pulp, it is pounded and stretched into long thin fibers that interweave among themselves. This creates a strong, fabric like paper.

How do you get your Origami so Small?
I normally start out with a small square of washi or origami paper about .75" to 1.25" square. Sometimes I will use a tiny flathead screw driver to assist in opening "pockets" as I fold and I frequently use a tool called a bone folder in order for my creases and folds to be tight and crisp. It takes time and patience to fold tiny origami, but the finished piece of miniature art is worth it.
