After 35 years of making clay the ideas just keep on coming

I've been making pottery, sculpture and photographs for over 35 years. Studying photography at Ohio U and then getting a BFA in ceramics at Ohio State. Over the years my work has changed ranging from a line of Art Deco giftware to my current nature inspired sculptures, garden art and tiles. I've sold my work at street fairs, in shops and at wholesale shows and now on line.

I started my business in the basement of my house in Columbus. It was called Swamp Studio because whenever it rained water seeped up through the floor. My tables had to have "custom" cut legs so they would sit level. I also shared the space with two cats, Bert & Ernie, who spent their nights there and aside from the odd paw print on a wet plate they were very considerate.

In 1986 my husband and I bought a farm in southeast Ohio where I now have an above ground studio. The name of the business changed to C McDonough Designs and the work got more organic as I was inspired by the rolling hills, woodlands and lush green pastures. Most of my art work comes from things that I want for my house or garden or for presents. I also learned how to make and lay tile as we remodeled our 100 year old farmhouse.

I currently make an eclectic mix of pottery. My large Green men are a real challenge and I'm always trying to improve with each one. Woodsprites, Leaf babies and various other items decorated with printed or three D leaves round out my Leafy line. At the other end of the spectrum are my Victorian House bird feeders that come in a dizzying array of colors and my Mod Squad Owls in some hip 60's retro colors.

My latest work in slumped glass, started because we could not recycle glass in Meigs county. I knew glass melted and I have a kiln, so after reading a couple of web pages I was off to the races. I now offer a line of slumped glass suncatchers and ornaments. If you want to see pictures of my larger glass sculpture, click the slumped glass tag on my web site.

I hope to keep on creating art for years to come.

I work in an old washhouse behind the 100+ year old farmhouse that is nestled in the gently rolling hills of southeast Ohio. My hands are in dirt all day if not in the studio then in the garden, or tending to a menagerie of animals.

    Spokes Cat

Mad Larry is an outspoken spokes cat! He tells it like it is no claws barred, all claws bared!! The good news is he works (haha) for kibble. I literally picked Larry, his Mom Honey and his sister Darlene off the side of the road.

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

See the gift wrap icon for a picture and description.
I use recycled maps from National Geographic and a gift card from my photo note card collection in a smaller size with your personal message inside. If the item is too large for a map I use a pale blue paper.

Custom and personalized orders

I do custom orders and can personalize some custom items. Custom orders can take from 1-3 months depending on the item and my work load. Contact me for a firm date.

Why do you use the USPS for shipping

I live in a rural place and only the USPS picks up packages every day for free. A drive to town is a 2 hour commitment and I'd rather be making art.
