About

I've been a woodworker for most of my life, having gradually built up my shop and tools over the years. I've made all sorts of furniture from bookshelves to tables, and even a pie safe. I've always been a practical kind of guy - if I make something I'm going to use it.

I wanted to make a candlestand table (a small table with a round top, a single turned pedestal and 3 legs), but I needed to know how to turn the pedestal. I had already taken a few woodworking classes at my local Community College, so one semester I signed up for their Intro to Lathe Turning class. I didn't know the first thing about woodturning, but I was ready to learn.

After the Intro class, the following semester I signed up for the Intermediate, and later the Advanced class. At the time I had no desire to make a bowl, but then I made one. And another. And another. That was 15 years ago.

My job kept me busy during the week, and I only had the weekends free to turn - and sometimes only a few hours. I wanted to become more efficient and productive, and I didn't want to spend all weekend making just one item. That led me to take a week long class in 2010 with a professional production Woodturner - someone that makes thousands of bowls every year! I learned a lot that week, but I wanted to learn more. The next year I took another week long class with a different professional woodturner. The following year another class, then another, and another. I've been professionally trained, and it shows in the quality of my work.

One of these days I might actually get around to making that candlestand table.

Woodturning is my passion. I get a lot of satisfaction by seeing someone use something that I have made. I've always been detail oriented, and I set high standards for myself and my work.

heir-loom
noun
"A valuable object that has belonged to a family for several generations"

Welcome to Colorado Kitchen Heirlooms. I specialize in making high quality hand crafted wood items that are used in the preparation and serving of food. This includes salad bowls, salad bowl sets, nested bowls, platters, peppermills, and cutting boards. But don't forget serving utensils, ice cream scoops, and pizza cutters!

I use local Colorado woods for all of my utility items. This includes Silver Maple, Boxelder Maple, Black Walnut, White and Brown Ash, Cottonwood, Honey Locust, and Siberian Elm. I get my wood from Arborists and tree surgeons, and am able to save the tree from going to the landfill or ending up as firewood. I give the tree continued life in the form of a beautiful bowl or platter that will now give you a lifetime of use with proper care. A true heirloom that can be passed down through your family.

Handmade items make wonderful gifts.

Use and care instructions are provided with all bowls, platters, and peppermills. Your heirloom should last a lifetime with proper use and care, and I'll make sure you know how to care for it. I have invested a lot of money in boxes, foam wrap, bubble wrap, and other shipping supplies. Once the item has been scanned by USPS, I am not responsible if the package is lost or misdirected. All issues at that point should be with USPS, although I will do what I can to help.

USPS provides insurance for free up to $100. If you want to purchase additional insurance let me know and I will give you a quote for the added cost.
Additional policies and FAQs
Would you like to have something made to remember a special tree that's been in your family for years? Do you want a certain size bowl or platter? Custom orders are gladly accepted. Please contact me with your request for a price quote.

I never ask for a down payment on special orders. Once we have worked out details to make sure I understand what you want, all I need is your OK to get started. I'll keep you informed of the progress, and when your order is complete I will send you pictures to make sure that what I made is what you had in mind. If it is, then I will create an Etsy listing so that you can pay for the order. If it's not what you wanted or you changed your mind, no problem whatsoever. I can start over or we call it a day. It's your money and you should get what you want.
