Playful and Charming Illustrations

As a kid in school, back in Scotland, we'd spend a lot of time drawing or maybe that's what I remember most. The girls would sit together asking and telling each other what they were going to draw. Usually it was a house with a sun up in the corner of the page. Sometimes it was people. Sometimes I'd find one of those awesome rainbow crayons in the crayon tin and I'd be so excited to use it but then everything I tried to draw with it just came out looking like a big rainbow scribble. But it was awesome anyway.

Both my mum and my granny painted and I learned about drawing the proportions of the human head when I was about 6. It took years before I was able to really get that down but I feel like it was a big lesson in seeing like an artist. I took several photography courses in college and that helped me to see even more.

I don't know if there really is a thing as natural talent, but I think anyone can be an artist if they really want to. Just practice seeing and practice doing. But most importantly: enjoy yourself!
