Announcement
Gyotaku fish printing is an ancient art form that originated in Japan in the early 1800s. It involves taking a rubbing of a freshly caught fish on mulberry paper, using non-toxic paints.
As an accomplished Gyotaku artist I create prints of the fish I catch while out on fishing trips. These prints capture the unique beauty and details of each individual fish, and are a beautiful way to preserve the memory of a successful fishing trip.

Frequently asked questions
Are your fish rubbings original or prints?
All my art work is original and handmade. Besides the calendars and T-shirts, I do not offer reproductions.
Why do some fish rubbings look alike?
A single fish can provide several rubbings. Although they may look alike, each rubbing is unique.
Can I get a small fish?
The fish rubbing art is life size and represents the actual size of the fish caught. I fish for deep sea fish which tend to be large in size.
Can I get my own Gyoataku fish rubbing?
Join me on a wilderness fishing trip and I will rub your catch for free!

Where are the fish caught?
The majority of the fish are rubbed on a remote (secret) location on the west coast of Panama where I have been taking clients since the pandemic. Some fish are from Costa Rica, Tahiti and Galapagos.
