Frequently asked questions

Where are you located and where is production done?

Cards of Wood is located in Western Michigan, just 10 miles north of Grand Rapids. Production and printing of all materials are done in-house. Cards of Wood is proud to be an American owned and operated business that supports our local and national economy.

Is the wood biodegrable?

Yes! Since the wood is 100% natural, the card will biodegrade. No type of chemicals are used in the process of production and will not harm the environment during the decomposition process.

Where does your wood come from?

All over the United States! Mostly from the Mid-West region.
Cards of Wood firmly believes in keeping the environment healthy by only purchasing logs from companies that employ sustainable yield harvesting practices.

Can you write on the wood?

Yes, we suggest a ball point pen. Some pens and markers with a wet ink tend to bleed in the grain of the wood.

Can I cut the wood veneer?

This may seem obvious, but you can cut the veneer with almost anything. Scissors, craft knives, utility knives, and rotary cutters

Can I fold the wood veneer without it cracking?

We suggest you score the veneer before folding. Some woods will fold better than others, and even after scoring, cracking may occur. The veneer will not crack in half, but the material used to bond the veneers together will keep the materials from ripping or cracking more. (You will need to score the veneer to fold regardless of the direction the wood grain is running.

Will the wood warp or curl?

Keep in mind that this product is 100% real wood and will be affected by temperature and humidity. If storing materials for a long amount of time, keep the veneer wrapped in shrink wrap, in a Zip-Lock bag or airtight container.

What do I need to know about the wood cards?

Wood veneer is a natural product and will always exhibit individual features and character marks. From tree-to-tree, log-to-log and card-to-card, the wood product will vary. No two cards or grains will be alike.
Variation in color, figure and other natural characteristics including but not limited to thickness, translucency, texture, grain pattern, wood knots, amount of grain and color, including within the same specie, can occur. Veneer will gradually darken as it ages, with exposure to light and air. ** Photos shown online are a representative of the species.

How can I print on the wood?

The wood can be printed on with the following methods; Digital Laser Printers, Screen Printers, Lithographic Printers, Laser Engravers, Thermographic Printer and many other crafting printing options.
*Experimental printing is strongly encouraged for your printer and printing method.

You may write on the wood card using a ball point pen or colored pencil. A marker or any kind of 'wet' ink will bleed into the grain of the wood
