Carducci Art Stories

About my shop name: In Greece the word “heart” is “kardia” the accent is on the last “a”. My husband and I, used to call each other “kardia mou” which means “my heart”, something like “sweat heart”. Then one day we took a trip from Athens, to the northern parts of Greece, where there is a town called “Karditsa”, see the resemblance with the word “kardia”. So, my husband, after seeing a road sign for “Karditsa” he turns and calls me “Kardoutsa” instead of “kardia mou” (sweet heart). Since then, for the last 20 years or so, my nick name (and his) is “kardoucci” spelled Carducci in English. Funny story, and a funny "slip of the tounge" but I could not name my shop any other name.

The sign of my shop has a story too. In ancient Greece, there was a custom, for young couples in love, to give each other a goose or a swan as a gift showing their tender feelings. The swan and the goose were the holy birds of Aphrodite the goddess of love. This story gave me the idea for the sign of my shop which is a goose image from a 1,600 BC- 1,100 BC vessel.

About me: I studied Fine Arts in Florence, Italy and due to personal economic difficulties did not finish my studies there and came back to finish them in Greece. After completing my studies, I worked for several years as an art director for major Greek magazines. I loved my job and I was really good at it. Then, one day, I decided that I should channel my creativity and energy in doing something of my own. Really mine. I quit my job, went to school to learn how to make jewelry and that is how my new love began. Ever since, I am crazy in love with what I am doing. I love creating things with my hands and the journey of creation takes me to heaven.

About my inspiration: Carducci Art is...
♡ The simplicity and innocence of the childhood years through toys.
♡ The delicacy and perfection captured in a small flower.
♡ The journey in art with an ancient vessel as a guide.
♡ The power of a simple line that leaves you in awe.
The line that is a source of inspiration for modern art.
♡ The small details that give value to our life.

About my work: All my jewelry is crafted using traditional processing methods and the material used is sterling silver, brass, oxidized or metalized. The cords are handmade of silk thread and I use natural dyes wherever is needed.
I hope to find them interesting.
