About CarlaHughesArt

Sales 156
On Etsy since 2014

I've been building all my life, Tinkertoys and Playdoh as a little, clay and steel as a grown up. I love what I do with my whole heart and am fortunate for my life as a maker. I have done many things in my adult life (restaurants, welding, seamstress, artist's assistant, student, movie extra, research assistant, parent, & spouse to name just a few) all of which prepared me for a career as an independent artist. My studio is set up in a small town in Deep South Texas, about 30 miles north of the Mexico border and 30 miles west of the coast. Things are quiet and calm here, perfect for a dedicated studio life.

After nearly a decade working with steel, I was surprised when in 2010 I realized that clay was my material soul mate. All those years of steel fabrication cannot be erased and manifest in my current building technique. Most pieces start with large flat sheets of clay which I cut and fit into the forms found here. Some pieces I emboss with handmade patterns pulled from childhood memories and the surrounding landscape while others are carefully glazed to give the illusion of old wood or metal. I find balance in the use of these organic surfaces against the rigid geometry of the forms. I strive to make pieces you would want to see in your own home.

Some notes on my shop:
*Orders ship out when payment has fully cleared.
*All orders are shipped via US Postal Service Priority Shipping. Once pieces have shipped, they should arrive in 2 to 3 days. Buyers will be notified once an order ships with a tracking number.
*Shipping is included in the price of the work unless otherwise noted.
*Any custom work will take 4 to 6 weeks to ship.
*I strive for the highest quality items possible. If you are not happy with the quality of my work, please feel free to contact me via Etsy Conversations and we will work out a solution.

Thank you for stopping in! If I can answer any further questions, please get in touch!
