Artist Seeks and Finds Her Inspiration!

I grew up exploring the rugged coast of Newfoundland, but always dreamed of a pastoral farm. When I was 13 I went to a summer camp in Nova Scotia, and I remember sitting on the bus as we drove to the site, looking out the window at the countryside with the fields and small farms that so appealed to me. I saw a small boy running in a field, and in the background a big old barn with swallows swooping overhead. It etched a vision in my mind and heart, the dream was solidified within; I saw it and I knew that someday I would live in a similar place.

Life took many sideroads, but a constant was also art. Started drawing as a toddler, and never stopped. I did a Fine Arts degree, and I kept searching for The Place. After many years and checking out over 200 places, I found the old farm I was looking for. As soon as I saw it, I knew it--the maple trees on the lane, the weathered barns, the ancient apple orchard--it was the vision I held in my heart for years!

I've been here now for over 10 years. Every day I am thankful that I am living my dream. Yes, the old barn needs work, and the house could use more TLC. And I won't deny it's a robust challenge combining art with farming and making it all add up. My dream was to live on such an old place like this, to have animals and a farm, and to be an artist. Now I am living it, and discovering the balance between the dream and the reality of living a creative life!

The farm, the woods, the animals and the flowers, are the inspiration for much of the art I create. It's all centred on the relationship with this specific place on earth that I was calling to, and maybe it called me to itself?

Life is an adventure. And one of the latest paths to self-sufficiency has led me to Etsy. I am inspired by the stories of so many who are living their dreams, and sharing their creations here on Etsy. I feel great when I see others succeed doing what they love!
