The name "Haraldsdotter" honors my father Gerald, whose shining heart and loving encouragement sent me on the path to be an artist.

My love affair with intaglio prints started in Paris, where I studied in a tiny courtyard atelier near the metro Alexander Dumas. Classes were at night, the atelier was warmly lit, and the master artist was so demanding!

I'll never forget my first experience of slipping a plate into acid, brushing the bubbles away with a feather until finally the plate had this great gnarly texture made to grab and hold ink. The paper was the opposite of metal and acid: it was made of cotton, and it had to be wet to take the ink. The press was ancient and cranked by hand. Magic.

Fast forward some decades, I slipped several dozen crazy shaped plates into acid in Cleveland, Ohio. Mixed and matched in various configurations, with hand-mixed inks and a technique called 'chine collé,' I was able to create these prints that were almost like paintings.
