Announcement   Childhood memories of wandering through woodlands, immersed in an inner world of whimsical imaginary characters, continue to inspire me as do traditional fairy-tales, folk lore and Gothic narratives. My work as a doll-maker often relies upon my magpie eye for vintage fabrics, lace and buttons as well as reclaiming fragments of the natural world: drift wood, feathers, petals. Each doll is unique in its design and form, a highly individual piece of art, but part of my creative process is to imbue a distinct personality and a history to tell. Many of the dolls represent the vulnerable and sensitive aspects of human nature, but with all beauty comes a subtle darkness and my angels will always have dirty faces.

Self-taught in the art of doll making and after many months of working with different techniques, clays and armatures, these slightly dark but loveable characters began to take shape.

Each doll is lovingly hand sculpted and stitched using a doll making clay and vintage fabrics. The faces are created with pencil and watercolours, the hair is mohair. Each doll is unique, reflecting his or her own particular story or personality.

All individual pieces of art, the dolls come from the depths of my imagination mingled with quirky interesting people that come my way. Inspiration also comes from old fairy tales, children’s book illustrators, film and all that’s a bit offbeat.

My dolls range from historical heroines, fairy tale characters and my own imagined kooky kids. I also do commissions as individualised gifts and family heirlooms.

I love all the different aspects creating these unique dolls - the design, building an armature, sculpting - but most rewarding is hand stitching each unique costume, and painting their faces when they start to come to life

About

Becoming the Doll Maker

A little about me;

After raising my two young sons, my creative soul was calling me back. For many years I have been gathering interesting collectables, vintage fabrics, lace, buttons, driftwood and many other items that catch my eye, with a desire to create something new.

So from this came my strangely beautiful dolls.

    Being a bit of a magpie and for many years gathering collectables, vintage fabrics, lace, buttons, along came my strangely beautiful dolls. I am self taught and love all aspects of doll making and creating these little characters with their stories.

Additional policies and FAQs
My dolls are show pieces and rather delicate, so are not suitable as toys for very young children. As with all things handmade, I do not use molds, they may come with imperfections but this is all part of their uniqueness.
