Ce qui m'a plu pour cette couverture en cuir, c'est de pouvoir y ranger aussi bien des carnets et autres papiers et stylo.

About

CarryAbout

My son had graduated from culinary school but could not find a knife roll he liked; he had collected some very nice knives.

The knife rolls with the features he liked were cheaply made or were well made but weren't really that practical, they were form and aesthetics over functionality.

He drew up a well thought out pattern and asked me to make it, hence was born the first knife roll. It’s made of stone oiled leather and Cordura, has zipper pockets, pen holders and a seatbelt strap (from an old ford truck) that fastens the case crosswise over his back so he can carry it on his bike through the city securely.

It is in a word, Neat. Many people asked him where he got it, some of the best chefs in the world as he works in Manhattan, and CarryAbout was sparked.

The current knife roll is the result of a couple years of learning about the best way to store knives so they have the least tendency to rust. About how Leather and Cordura behave, age and how one complements the other so they stay in shape. How to sew on an industrial machine, about pattern making and then sewing prototypes that were tested by chefs. Many failed and this one succeeded, really well. It keeps knives secure, dry and convenient.

And my daughter, who had taken up knitting (for the sake of her sanity while going through graduate school), asked me to make her a case that wouldn't spill her knitting needles all over when she picked it up or opened it on a less than flat surface. We measured needles, picked out materials and made one out of beautiful fabric for the exterior and fabric with some friction (nap) in the lining to keep the needles secure. That led to a friend asking me to make a case that doesn't have flowers all over it for her husband. More knitting cases are in the works, too.
My daughter also has a store on Etsy, she enjoys dying yarn and fiber, have look:

I have been designing and creating my whole life, making anything has always been my calling, sewing is just one of my outlets but probably my favorite.

I feel these cases chose me and I love making cases and bags that are practical, appealing and will last a lifetime.

I'm never happier than when I'm finding out what the fabric and leather will become.
