Welcome to Cassie's Tale Vintage!

All of our listings are true vintage items. We will never knowingly offer reproductions, and will never knowingly list anything called "vintage" that is not actually vintage.

Because all of our items are vintage, they are assumed to have had a past. Most vintage items show signs of age, wear, or use. That is part of their charm!

We do our best to honestly and fully describe every item, and to include listing pictures of any significant or unusual damage. That said, our idea of normal vintage wear may differ from yours -- and vintage items are not returnable. So please read the description of an item carefully before making your purchase, and if you have any questions at all about the condition of an item, please ask us *before* you make your purchase.

We are always interested in why you love a particular item from Cassie's Tale Vintage, and in what you do with your purchases. Are you an artist who uses old photographs in your work? Or a collector who found a perfect addition to your collection? We'd love to hear about it!

Contact us via Etsy convo if you have any questions, or if you'd like to share a story.

Shipping
All items are safely and securely packaged, and typically ship within 1-2 business days. We are always happy to combine shipping if you place an order for multiple items at once -- just let us know, and we will revise the shipping charges appropriately.

If you have any other special shipping needs, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate you!

------------------------------------------------

How We Pack Your Order:

We want 100% of our customers' orders to arrive safely, so we don't skimp on packaging! For example, if you order a vintage photograph, we place it in a clear protective sleeve, then protect it on both sides with sturdy cardboard. Next, we place your cardboard-protected photo into a sealed poly envelope (just in case the package is exposed to water). Finally, small photos are put inside a rigid envelope for mailing. Photos too large to fit in a rigid envelope are double-bagged in sealed poly envelopes for protection.

A Note on Shipping Costs:

If shipping costs seem a lot higher than they used to be, you're right! The USPS has raised rates multiple times over the past year, and small packages have been among the hardest hit in terms of the amount of the increase. Our philosophy is that you shouldn't have to pay any more to receive a package than we have to pay to mail it to you. That's why we don't charge any separate shipping, handling, or other fees. Shipping insurance is included in the mailing charges for international orders and certain domestic shipments. (More details on that below.)

We are in the process of converting the items in our shop over to Etsy's new shipping-cost calculator. Hopefully, that will make the shipping charges you pay match very closely, if not exactly, to the amount of postage that we actually pay to ship your item to you. Of course, these systems aren't always perfect -- so if there is ever a significant discrepancy between the two, we are more than happy to refund excess shipping charges!

------------------------------------------------

A Few Other Things You Should Know:

* Insurance: All international orders have mandatory insurance built into the shipping cost (typically around $1.25 per package). All domestic orders over $35 have mandatory insurance built into the shipping cost (typically $1.00 per package).
If you would like your U.S. shipment under $35 insured, please let us know

* Shipping Damage: We know that some bumps and bruises can be expected during the normal shipping process --- and we package your item(s) securely with that in mind. Despite these precautions, though, sometimes damage occurs en route that is simply out of our control. Thankfully, this is rare. But if it does happen to you, please contact us right away so that we can try to help resolve the problem. There are a few things you can do upon receipt of a damaged package to significantly improve your ability to resolve the problem quickly and effectively. First and foremost, if a package arrives in damaged condition, it is important to take photos of the damaged packaging *BEFORE* you open the item. Second, after taking photos of the damaged package, open it up and take photos of any damage to the contents.

* International (non-US) customers: You are responsible for any import fees, duties, taxes, licenses, or other customs-related charges your country may impose. For specific customs, duties, and tariff information please contact the customs agency in your country. As required by US law, all international shipments will be declared as merchandise, valued at the full purchase price. *No exceptions.* (Please don't ask us to make a special exception for you -- by asking us to make an exception, you are asking us to break the law!)

* Preferred Shipping Addresses: By default, we ship to the Etsy preferred shipping address that is listed in your Etsy account. Please make sure the address is updated and correct, so that your order arrives promptly and at the right location! We cannot be responsible for buyers' errors (e.g., items that are not received because they were shipped to an old or invalid address listed as your Etsy preferred shipping address).
Refunds and Exchanges
Unless stated otherwise in a specific item listing, returns are not accepted unless the item shipped is not the item actually ordered.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact us -- we are happy to help!

------------------------------------

Here are the general guidelines we follow in determining the condition of our photos and paper ephemera. Of course, the listing pictures are the best way for you to view and judge the condition of any item. Our rating system is only designed as a rough guide.

* Excellent: New or like new. Vintage photographs & ephemera very rarely meet this standard. Photo looks clean and fresh, without soil, dirt, or damage on the picture side. No creases or tears, almost no visible surface wear.

* Very Good: Most photos and ephemera we sell fall in this category. There may be minor defects, such as edge/corner wear, surface marks, minor creasing, color fading, or other signs of gentle handling. The item may have slight stains, marks, or soiling, but none that seriously affect the main subject of the photo. May have writing, photo album paper/tape/glue, or other marks on the back.

* Good: In good shape, but with some defects. May have more pronounced edge/corner wear, creasing, cracking, bends, edge/surface waviness, surface scratches, or other dirt/soiling/staining. May have small nicks or tears, but none that affect the main subject of the photo. Often has writing, photo album paper/tape/glue remnants, or other marks on the back or front.

* Fair: Flaws are fairly pronounced. May have tears, damp damage, or other fairly significant soiling, staining, creasing, edge/corner damage, or surface damage. We do not usually list photos and ephemera in this condition.

* Poor: Photo or piece of ephemera is mostly intact, but the image is seriously affected by damage. We rarely, if ever, list items in this condition.
