Playful Every Day

I have always loved jewelry and accessories. For a time they were my only way to express my personal style when I was at school. But I have always had a hard time finding styles I liked that didn’t look cheap or fall apart after a short time. I am an athletic, outdoorsy girl who loves fashion but doesn’t want it to get in my way. I like playful styles that aren’t too grown-up or serious but can be worn to a meeting, a night out, or camping. I also have a little girl who either wants to play with my jewelry while I’m wearing it or play dress-up with it so they have to be durable too. (I’m pretty hard on my stuff too, so it has to stand up)
I trained in fashion design at Drexel University and worked in the fashion industry for 5 years before starting my line in November 2009. As I was starting my business I apprenticed with a couple of established jewelry designers to learn the business and hone my production skills. Keeping my line handmade in house is very important to me. I still handcraft each piece myself in my home studio because making something beautiful from scratch is what really gives me the greatest pride in my work.
I am inspired by nature and the beauty of the natural materials that I use. I love to make pieces that are little winks to my arts and crafts days as a Girl Scout and ones that are inspired by mystic symbols and good luck charms. I think jewelry and accessories are a great way to have a little fun with your wardrobe and maybe add a little reminder of the wonder of childhood into your everyday life.

How it is made.
I draw on many skills I learned as a girl at camp to craft my designs including; macramé, bead weaving, needlepoint, and leathercraft. I also integrate handcrafting skills I have learned as an adult such as wirework, sewing, printmaking, and weaving to create a unique blend of texture and materials. Speaking of materials, I choose to work only with high-quality raw materials not only because they are beautiful but also so my work will be made to last. When you spend as much time as I do on your work you want it to stay beautiful for a long time to come. I work with precious metals that are hypoallergenic and are easily cleaned. I choose to work with semi-precious stones and natural beads and occasionally with handcrafted beads. I have chosen to work with silk as my primary fiber as it is more durable than cotton and more luxurious feeling than synthetics. And I have chosen to work primarily with deer hide as leather for its buttery soft texture, unlike other leathers.
I meticulously handcraft every design myself often mixing several materials and techniques into an individual piece. I also test all of my designs out to make sure that they are easy to wear and care for. I suggest that macramé pieces be hand washed in warm water with a gentle detergent. Then rinsed completely & hung to dry. Leather should not be washed or allowed to get wet, natural oils in your skin will condition the leather over time. Metals should be polished with a metal polishing cloth. Dipping solutions or metal cleaning agents as these can damage stones or fibers. Stones can be cleaned and polished with a microfiber cloth. And for best care, no jewelry should be worn in the shower or while swimming and they should be kept away from body products like perfume and lotions. With proper care, this handcrafted jewelry can last for years.
