Announcement   FREE SHIPPING on most orders to the contiguous United States!

Our collections evoke feline instinct. Each piece is beautifully handcrafted, space conscious, and feline addicting. You can enrich your cats’ environment with limitless configurations. The furniture we make are built from distinct, imaginative designs that arouse cats’ natural instincts and encourages them to use their minds. This stimulation, in turn, helps solve feline behavioral issues.

Environmental enrichment is very important for cats, being especially crucial for those kept indoors since many behavioral problems are associated with under-stimulated cats. Our furniture allows cats to have their own space that’s up high enough for them to feel safe, far out of reach of dogs and children. This extra vertical space can also help alleviate territorial issues in homes with multiple cats, as well as give them their own space to claim, up and away from your furniture.

At CatastrophiCreations, we focus on quality and strive to create beautiful and long-lasting furniture using natural materials like solid pine, 100% cotton canvas and sisal.

Right now our wait times for most orders is 1 to 3 weeks to complete. On ready to ship items our handling time is 3 business days or less.

Both myself and my cats love this addition to our home. They were a little hesitant at first about walking across the bridge but with some positive reinforcement that made it better.

About

Cats.

At CatastrophiCreations, our goal is to create an attractive and functional vertical space for cats to explore and relax on. Whether you have a lack of floor space and don't want to set up a large cat tree, you want to give your cats a fun perching area up high or if you need to solve behavior and territorial issues; our furniture is what every cat needs! We hand-make quality, sturdy and very fun alternatives to cat trees and cat towers that will have your feline friend up the wall in no time :)

Our business started as a hobby in 2013, building wooden furniture and sewing hammocks for our cats. We eventually started up our Etsy shop and sold some of our furniture on the side, building it out of our third story apartment in Portland, OR. We ended up moving to Michigan, where Mike is originally from and we didn't look around for any work and just focused on building our furniture ideas out of our two-car garage. It was kind of an experiment, seeing if the business could make enough for us to live off of so that we didn't have to have traditional jobs and our hobby ended up growing into a really cool business!

Mike's childhood best friend Gabe moved across the state and joined us as our first co-worker the summer of 2014 and he is now the general manager of our team. Megan's best friend Jennifer also ended up moving from Portland to join the fun in our new budding business. Three years later, we are working out of our 4,000 square foot facility with our 12 additional team members in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are lucky enough to have three very cute cats that are quite active and eager to test out our new furniture ideas. Every piece is first tested in our home for a month to make sure that the new concept is not only fun for them to play on, but is also functional for them to use. If they do not approve, we scrap the idea and try something different.

Ickle is our Desert Lynx, with the oversized paws and natural bob tail. Heisenberg is our Siamese-Bengal who likes to be up high. Lylah is our 'sweet' little Calico.

At CatastrophiCreations, we focus on quality and strive to create beautiful and long-lasting furniture using natural materials like solid pine, 100% cotton canvas and sisal.

Mike has his GED along with a small handful of purple participation ribbons from being on a swim team.

  • Megan Hanneman

Megan can jump higher than almost anybody I know. She also has a rare pencil collection.

  • Heisenberg

    Assistant

This is Heisenberg. He is really small and agile. He is the cuddler of the family, but tends to run and hide under the bed when visitors or the mailman knocks on the door. He will let you pet him, as long as you don't make any sudden movements.

  • Ickle

    Assistant

This is Ickle. He is kind of special. He has big feet and a tiny little tail. He loves to lay on his back in spaces too small for his body. He loves trying to escape into the garage to roll around in dirt and making bird sounds out the window.

Additional policies and FAQs
All of our wooden pieces are incredibly sturdy, and have each been weight tested at 85 lbs. Our fabric sections fluctuate in what they can handle, depending on the length of the sections. Our 16″ sections have been tested to hold 85 lbs. Longer sections like the 32″ spans, have been tested at 65 lbs.

We use corner braces for brackets that are attached from the top, so that when weight is applied, it pushes the shelf tight against the wall. This creates a very sturdy hold. Our pieces do need to have at least one of the brackets mounted into a stud. If you don’t have studs available or they do not line up right, then you can mount up using 1/8" x 2" Toggle Bolts into drywall.

The fabric on our shelves is not removable, but we use this method to keep our furniture clean: http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-clean-cat-furniture/

Unfortunately, the canvas on our pieces is not removable. To secure the fabric in place so that it resists stretching and pulling, we staple the fabric to the wooden planks. This does make it so that the fabric cannot be washed, but we wanted it to be built structurally sound.

You can clean the furniture like you would a normal cat tree. The hose attachment on vacuums can be used to remove any fur or dander. Then a damp cloth can be used to remove anything else that may be questionable.

We do have waterproof canvas fabric in Light Gray and Khaki that is available on all of our items. This fabric is not removable from the wooden shelving, but you can wipe it clean.

Tools you may need to install our products include: a stud finder, a pencil/pen, a level, and a drill with a 7/64" bit and a Phillips head screwdriver bit to mount the pieces. For pieces that use drywall anchors, you will also need a hammer and a 3/16" drill bit.

The brackets we use are designed to be installed on the tops of our pieces. This way, when weight is applied to the pieces, they're pushed toward the wall, whereas if we put them on the bottoms, the weight would pull them away from the wall.
