About CatherinesVintageJoy

On Etsy since 2012

I am an only child...

...of an only child, of an only daughter, of a long family line of pack-rats.
It has ALL funneled down to me.
Most of the everyday furniture used in our house dates from the 1880/90's - and I LOVE every bit of it!!!

The *problem* started in the 1980's - when I was a new bride, and setting up my own household. We didn't have all this STUFF yet - not one stick of furniture (a folding yard chair, small b/w TV, and a single camping mattress excepted.) I didn't realize the heirloom funnel that hung over my head! I grew up surrounded by antiques ~ home just isn't 'home' without them. So, naturally, that was what I wanted for my house. And, with our college (negative) incomes, it was all we could afford. But hey - remember, Shabby Chic was tres chic in the 80's.

I bought and 'collected' like mad, well - as money allowed.
I remember one time I found an unmarked silver Conn saxophone; what a treasure! (Both hubby and I were Music Majors.) The bell of the saxophone was decorated in an almost pierced fashion, with this gorgeous swirl and flower design. I cleaned it up and tested it out - it played beautifully. I took it in to show to one of my music professors, who confirmed it was indeed a rare Conn horn, and promptly offered me well over twice what I had paid for it. OMG! I'd found us 2 months rent. Wow! But, I never thought of selling antiques as a business; that is, until the last time we moved.

We've moved many times in our now 25 years of marriage - but this last time was the LAST time. (Period!) As the boxes were piling up in the middle of the house, I realized many of them had been packed (and were still packed) from several moves back. What?!?

See, I used to redecorate each season and for every holiday - I'm talkin' completely redo the house... switch out pictures in their frames, use a different set of dishes, different color scheme - towels, tableclothes, curtains... sometimes even paint or paper a room, AND rearrange the furniture. It was fun! We didn't have kids yet. I was nuts!

Anyway, when I saw all those boxes - piled to the ceiling - in every room of our big new house - I realized...
We just have TOO MUCH stuff.
There, I said it!
*rolls eyes at self*
WAY too much STUFF!

And, that's what this shop is for... THAT stuff (not the family heirlooms so much - they will get passed on to my 'only child' someday.)

At this point, I do not have any plans to purchase 'stock' items for this shop. The idea is to get rid of stuff, not add more!

This is me ~ with my little only child, back in 2004. See the collection of Disney Princesses on the mantel behind us? Yup. Those are hers. We started her off collecting things early! At 9, her favorite thing to collect was lizards - in the yard. Ugh

Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 4 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

Your Rights

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:
