About

Caveman Pottery

I have been inspired by my wife's love of pottery and roosters. Out of a desire to give her special gifts, was born Caveman Pottery. I never wanted her to forget what I look like, so I made them all look somewhat like me, a little on the wild side! My wife helps me in our studio adjacent to our home in Cleveland, Ga.

I have received informal training in making pottery from many of our folkart mentors in the Meaders family and beyond. I start with ideas and sometimes drawings and let the clay take on a life of its own. I choose designs that I like the function of or I like the way it makes people smile. I hand build and throw on the wheel my creations.

My wife helps me with the glazing, that’s her specialty. We love a variety of colors from bright, eclectic and fun to eye catching and uniquely layered colors that have a lot of depth. You can see the variety of our love for color in the glazes that we choose to use in our pottery. We hope that when people see our pottery, they smile!

The roosters were our beginning and will always be our passion. We love Christmas, so a line of snowmen and ornaments came out of that love. We have many friends who adore wine, so out of a need for gifts, came our wine related items. We love all of the beautiful handmade soaps and candles we pick up from friends at shows, so that took us in the direction of the “anti-soggy” soap dishes to make those soaps last longer. We are always evolving and trying new things.

We love meeting new people and brightening their day through our art. It is the greatest compliment in the world to us that someone would want to take home a piece of Caveman Pottery!
