Out of the Ashes: A Riot of Colour...

About Me: Based in Kingston upon Hull in East Yorkshire, I’m Beki, the creative force and craftswoman behind Chimera Crafting. I’m a mother, animal lover, environmentalist, passionate humanitarian and all round geek.

I’ve had a life long interest in fibre arts of all kinds. Felting, hand spinning on drop spindles (and more recently a beautiful spinning wheel), knitting, crochet and dyeing - to name just a few... (Seriously, I could go on!) I have over 25 years of experience with many of these skills. I am truly passionate and dedicated to help keep these crafts alive, in my own small way. When I practice these skills I feel a real sense of connectedness - there’s something to be said about working with natural things.

How it Started: Due to personal circumstances changing significantly during 2019, becoming self employed and being able to work during hours that suit me was a logical decision - I am a worker bee by nature! When those needs become combined with my resourcefulness, passions for; sustainability, rare breed sheep fibre (and all natural fibres used in textiles), fibre arts, COLOUR and other ancient crafts and skills - well, that’s a marriage made in heaven! I’m VERY proud to share my small venture with you all.

Why “Chimera” Crafting? A Chimera is a mythological creature that is an animal made up of multiple other animals. Other than being one of my favourite mythological beasts, I felt is was a great symbol to represent what I do. I intend to sell more than one type of craft, so having a multi “beinged” beastie as my logo felt like a very good fit.

What Next? After I launch my Etsy shop, I plan on building my own website to sell through too. I’m under no illusions that this venture will take time to build, I am here for the long haul!

I’m also planning on attending as many craft fairs as possible. During 2020, I’d love to attend some of the larger fibre and yarn festivals within the U.K. - it would be great to be able to meet up with some of you lovely people in person! Watch my page for updates on what’s happening and when.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

I welcome custom orders, drop me a message and lets see what we can work out! Timescales will vary for very large orders, but I will always be open with you about how long I anticipate an order will take. I require a 50% deposit, up front, on all large custom orders.

Is all of your fibre and yarn sourced from within the U.K?

Absolutely yes! I'm passionate about our local wool farmers and source everything from within the United Kingdom. If for some reason this is not the case, I state it very clearly on the listing.

What's your policy on reducing plastic waste?

I am passionate about this! Whilst my system isn't perfect, I try very hard to use as little plastic as possible and wherever possible the plastic I do use is recycled/recyclable or reused.
