A man and his Rupee....
Hey all, Katrina here! I wanted to take a minute and tell you all a little bit about how all this kerfuffle (wow, spell check let that go through!) got started!
In the Fall of 2011, after spending the last batch of Summer playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64, Duke decided that it would be cute if he had some of his own Rupees. Now, he had just started college, and had never really done anything like this before, I knew that it would be very expensive (to do all the trial and error with materials and procedures), but I loved him and wanted him to be happy. So, we decided to let him go ahead.
We must have spent over $500 in the first 6 weeks alone, buying clay's, sandpapers, silicone, resins, dyes, sealers, bags, table clothes, tables, and building him his own little work station. I remember driving across the city after a massive dump of snow just so we could buy some LEGO off Kijiji so he could build his own mold boxes!
Well, after all was said and done, we ended up with some really beautiful pieces that we just adored. But as it turned out, the whole world seemed to fall in love with them too! And here we are over a year later we have sent over 2000 RUPEES world wide to happy homes, as well as hundreds of other packages containing equally fun stuff!
Right from the start we were so grateful for the support we've received from various communities, and we never dreamed that it would turn into the full fledged business that it has. We've taken to making Chinook Crafts a showcase of one-of-a-kind crafts inspired by our favorite games and anime series; and a place where we can share them with other fanatics. Not a single thing is commercially made at Chinook Crafts, and each piece you see is starts off as nothing but its raw materials until it comes to life in our basement.
We've loved being faced with challenges, and we have been blessed by seeing our goods being used on Wedding Cakes, as Table Scatters, in Cosplays, at Fundraisers, given as Anniversary Presents, and for Halloween and Christmas parties. We even once had a Teacher pick up one of our Digimon Tags to use as a teaching aid for their 4th Grade elementary school class!
We know that this is just the beginning for us, and couldn't be happier to bring you all along for the ride!
Thank you all!
