combining colors and patterns makes me happy!

Appliqué, piecing, and needlework are family traditions that my mother and grandmother passed along to me growing up. Everything was homemade in our house:the food, the quilts, the curtains, our clothes, Dad's psychedelic ties. Mom even made my underwear! There was a macrame, weaving, and dyeing phase that took over half the house (looms are big) at one point. There were craft shows involved where I was an unwilling prop, carding wool in the booth, wearing a colonial dress. Between shows, Mom taught me to sew and instilled in me a love for textiles.

Later, with a degree in apparel design from RISD under my belt, I immersed myself in a career as a clothing designer New York City. For over 10 years I worked in the traditional women's market specializing in sweaters. I may have been responsible for an "ugly Christmas sweater" or two (I know, ouch!)... but eventually I met my husband and decided to drop everything and move to Delaware to start a family.

Now that my kids are older, the creative urge is back. A friend introduced me to Etsy one day and the light bulb went on. I can use all I learned in the fashion business and have complete creative freedom here. It is very liberating to have control over every aspect of a business from construction of the garments to customer service. I refuse to compromise on quality or skimp on the details which I was often forced to do in my previous career.

Here at chirp & bloom, I indulge in my love of fabrics from the 1940's-'70's. Combining colors and patterns makes me happy! The quality children's wear I make from vintage fabric and thrifted material mixed with new fabric posses texture & charm that cannot be mass produced. Fashion can be such a wasteful business, so I strive to limit my use of new material requiring massive amounts of resources to produce.

I blog about my process, inspirations, and love for pies cooling on the windowsill here:

I hope you enjoy your visit to chirp & bloom!

I chucked the fashion world to start a family and be creative on my own terms. Sometimes I even find time to appreciate the birds chirping and the flowers blooming!

Welcome to chirp & bloom! Before opening this shop, I spent many years in conventional fashion production & design telling other people how to make stuff, but rarely making anything myself. The final customer was an abstract idea. Now I'm a sewing fool and actually get to interact with my customers! I can truly say I love what I do now. Thanks for stopping by!

Refunds and Exchanges
Unused and unwashed items are returnable within 10 days of receipt, but the buyer is responsible for shipping. Please email me with a head's up or include a note that lets me know who you are and the reason for your return.

But lets try not to need that option! Please refer to my size chart (which is in line with GAP KIDS) in the thumbnails for each item and be very sure of your size before ordering. My onesies run small compared to GAP and Carters. Feel free to convo me with any sizing concerns here: Supplying me with your child's measurements never hurts. I want you to be very happy with your purchase!
