Absolutely MAGNIFICENT!! This is a seller I would be HAPPY to buy from again! Way better than I ever hoped for. Thank you!!!
combining colors and patterns makes me happy!
Appliqué, piecing, and needlework are family traditions that my mother and grandmother passed along to me growing up. Everything was homemade in our house:the food, the quilts, the curtains, our clothes, Dad's psychedelic ties. Mom even made my underwear! There was a macrame, weaving, and dyeing phase that took over half the house (looms are big) at one point. There were craft shows involved where I was an unwilling prop, carding wool in the booth, wearing a colonial dress. Between shows, Mom taught me to sew and instilled in me a love for textiles.
Later, with a degree in apparel design from RISD under my belt, I immersed myself in a career as a clothing designer New York City. For over 10 years I worked in the traditional women's market specializing in sweaters. I may have been responsible for an "ugly Christmas sweater" or two (I know, ouch!)... but eventually I met my husband and decided to drop everything and move to Delaware to start a family.
Now that my kids are older, the creative urge is back. A friend introduced me to Etsy one day and the light bulb went on. I can use all I learned in the fashion business and have complete creative freedom here. It is very liberating to have control over every aspect of a business from construction of the garments to customer service. I refuse to compromise on quality or skimp on the details which I was often forced to do in my previous career.
Here at chirp & bloom, I indulge in my love of fabrics from the 1940's-'70's. Combining colors and patterns makes me happy! The quality children's wear I make from vintage fabric and thrifted material mixed with new fabric posses texture & charm that cannot be mass produced. Fashion can be such a wasteful business, so I strive to limit my use of new material requiring massive amounts of resources to produce.
I blog about my process, inspirations, and love for pies cooling on the windowsill here: http://www.threadsandsnippets.blogspot.com
I hope you enjoy your visit to chirp & bloom!
Owner, Maker, Designer
I chucked the fashion world to start a family and be creative on my own terms. Sometimes I even find time to appreciate the birds chirping and the flowers blooming!
