Un magnifique motif et des explications très claires ! Et Chloé répond très gentiment aux questions.
Hello! I'm Chloe and I make hand embroideries, and also produce downloadable PDF embroidery patterns.
After completing my art foundation course I worked with mixed media for around six years, creating works on paper and fabric using painting, printing and stitch. Last year I put together an embroidery pattern based on one of my collages, and enjoyed it so much that from that moment I decided I wanted to work exclusively with hand embroidery. I just love the possibilities and the range of marks that can be built up with relatively simple stitches. I incorporate back stitch, stem stitch, split stitch and French knots, but work mostly with straight stitch, enjoying its versatility.
My inspiration comes from many sources. One of my favourite things to embroider is birds; their colours and patterns lend themselves so well to being translated into stitch. I love to stitch pictures of other animals too, and I'm also very inspired by plants, gardens and the landscape.
I feel the need to distill things I have seen which have inspired me into pieces of work, it is often as simple as wanting to work with the image of something I have enjoyed. Having said that, although my work could perhaps be described as jolly and illustrative, I almost always aim for it to have a deeper meaning as well as attempting to make it aesthetically pleasing; I often feel like I'm making the work as a sort of appreciation of and dedication to the bird, animal or plant I am depicting.
Although my work is primarily illustrative, I occasionally work on a small abstract piece, in an attempt to capture the essence of a place, or sometimes purely to appreciate a particularly pleasing colour combination.
Drawing is an important part of my process, and when starting a new piece of work I usually make preparatory drawings from my photographs or imagination, but quite often I work spontaneously, laying down stitch to see what emerges. I find that this can often yield exciting results.
I started selling through my Etsy shop in 2011.
I am based in the West Midlands UK.
Thank you for visiting!

I include a number of photos in my listings in an attempt to show the colour of my items accurately, however colours can vary between monitors so the embroidery may appear to be a slightly different colour in real life. If you happened to purchase an item and were unhappy with this in any way I would again be happy to work with you to try to find a solution :)
Although I use quality threads, it is a good idea to keep your new embroidery out of direct sunlight as all textiles can fade. To clean embroideries it is best to use a very soft dry cloth rather than a damp one to gently remove any dust. Very soft clean makeup brushes work well too.
It would be lovely to know when your item has arrived safely and if you're happy with it; feedback is always much appreciated :)
