About

Creativity is in my genes.

I began the creative process when I was very young before I entered school. I saw designs in Flowers, patterns in other natural elements, and colors that made me feel.

My creativity has many faces of expression, which ranges from photography, drawing, painting, knitting, and designing.

When making my Christmas ornaments, I use acrylic ink, nail enamel, or nail lacquer. I inject the ink into the bulb, and use the drying times to create my designs. This is time consuming process, which can take anywhere for a few days to up to a year to create.

My inspiration comes from nature like ice floes, icicles, ice cracks, frost, river deposits, glistening snow, winter scenes, water reflections, and other natural occurring elements.

Each ornament is individually designed with no two ornaments that are exactly the same. I use offray, or wired ribbon to compliment the ornament.

As a photographer, there has to be something that speaks to me, which draws me into the frame. For this reason, my photography can be large in scope from taking photos of industrial items to taking photos of nature, and people.

When I manipulate my flower photographs, I push the boundary between photography and painting, and photography and pastel. My flower images tend to look more like paintings than photographs. My giclée prints are printed on canvas, and when looking at them, most people assume they are paintings.

I print these same images for my greeting cards.

As a young child, I began painting and never stopped. I have painted for most of my life, learning techniques and becoming more skilled in what I want to achieve. I paint abstract work, illustration, and geometric illustration and take on new things as I move with the paint flow.

Knitting is another aspect to my creativity, which has to do with patterns, and their manipulation. Equally important is the material I use, so the yarn I knit with is just as vital to that design process and achieving my end goal.

I mix and match colors, textures, and materials to create a desired product.

My Woolly Bear scarves collection are based on the Woolly Bear caterpillar (Isabella Tiger Moth), which has the black, coppery red, black pattern. As a young child I was fascinated by this creature with its “fur” of black, reddish-brown, black pattern that blended so well into the fall colors and leaves.

My father told me how people used this caterpillar as a predictor of the coming winter by how much auburn appears in comparison to the black. If the caterpillar had more black, and the “fur” was fuller, or longer than usual, it meant winter was going to be long, and particularly cold. Although this is a myth, these caterpillars freeze themselves in the winter by producing a cryoprotectant. When they thaw out in spring, they pupate. What’s interesting about them is that they can go years before finally pupating due to a shorter feeding climate, like experienced in the Arctic.

Although I don’t necessarily use the same colors in my creations, I do use the pattern, and the “furry” aspect of the caterpillar’s silk.

With my designs, I enjoy creating things that you do not typically find “out there,” and excel in pushing boundaries and creating something unique.
