Announcement   Welcome to A Kintsugi Life, with handcrafted kintsugi inspired jewelry and gifts. My kintsugi (or kintsukuroi) inspired work is developed from the Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with gold-infused lacquer to create golden seams in the repaired form that make it more beautiful and valuable than the original.

I have adapted this process to make kintsugi jewelry and accessories using stone and modern, less expensive repair materials. Because of the uniqueness of each stone and the unpredictable nature of the breaking process, every piece is a one of a kind made just for you!

This stone was exactly as pictured and beautifully packaged. The explanation that was given with the stone was also so beautiful it brought me to tears. Thank you!

Super fast shipping on a lovely item, even more beautiful that the photos. Kintsugi pieces make a unique and meaningful gift. I am counselor and will be purchasing other kintsugi items for clients who I sometime share the story of the the cracked pot: http://www.moralstories.org/the-cracked-pot/ Thank you for your excellent customer service and special attention to my order and short time-frame--much appreciated! About

Unique kintsugi-inspired jewelry and accessories

My art, writing, and coaching are all inspired by the image of kintsugi.

Kintsugi is a Japanese art form that uses gold-infused lacquer to repair broken pottery pieces in a way that leaves the repaired object more beautiful and valuable than it was originally. All of us get broken in various ways by life, and I believe that this art form can remind us to find the beauty and value in the healed scars. The healing that has happened becomes our gold when we allow that healing to spill forth in the healing of the world around us.

As I've worked with this metaphor in my writing and coaching practice, I wanted to create tangible gifts that people could use as reminders to see the gold in their healing. I developed my own modern methods to apply this art form to stone and polymer clay to make inexpensive items for use in jewelry and accessories. Because of the uniqueness of each batch of mixed clay or stone and the unpredictable nature of the breaking process, every piece is a one of a kind made just for you!

In addition to these modern versions of kintsugi in polymer clay and stone, I have a cheaper line of faux kintsugi heart pendants that have the look of kintsugi without the more expensive breaking and repair processes.

My artwork, along with my writing, is my creative outlet for my own healing, and my shop is a way to share my kintsugi-inspired creations with others who are also seeking to find the treasure in the scars of their own lives. My greatest reward is in hearing stories from my customers of the ways these images of kintsugi have been a source of healing and comfort in the painful times of their lives.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge sales tax?

Sales tax (7%) will be collected for all shipments going to addresses in the state of Indiana (USA).

For all other orders (domestic and international), the buyer and/or recipient of the shipment is responsible for paying all necessary taxes or customs fees that apply.

When will my order ship?

Finished items will ship no later than the next business day after the order is placed.

Custom orders and made-to-order items generally ship 1-2 weeks after the order is placed. The exact time depends on whether I have all of the necessary parts in stock, how long it takes to get the parts I need, and the complexity of the piece I am making for you. More detail regarding the time estimate can be provided during the creation of the custom order listing.

Due to the volume of orders that I am currently processing, I cannot delay shipment of an order more than a day or two beyond the standing shipping time frame specified for that item. I apologize for the inconvenience.

What if I have entered the wrong mailing address for my order?

If you send me a corrected address before your order is shipped, I can fix the address before printing the shipping label.

Once the package has shipped, I cannot make any corrections to the address. If the package is returned to me due to an incorrect or invalid address being supplied, I will notify you of the return and refund your purchase price. Shipping charges are not refundable since those charges will already have been paid to the US Postal Service. If you wish to re-order the item(s) using a corrected address, you may do so after they are re-listed for sale.

Otherwise, I am not responsible for packages that are mis-delivered due to an incorrect address being supplied by the buyer. Please use care when entering this information!

What shipping carriers do you use?

I ship all packages using the US Postal Service (USPS). If a shipment is being delivered outside the USA, the US Postal Service will transfer the package to the national postal system in the country to which it is traveling. (For example, this is Royal Mail in the UK.)

Will my package come with tracking information?

All packages shipping to US addresses will have tracking information. All packages shipping outside the US will come with tracking information that will at least be updated while the package is moving within the US. Once it leaves the US, the updating of this tracking information varies greatly depending on the procedures of the national postal service of the country to which it is traveling.

Please note that I have no ability to track or trace a package once it has left the US. You will need to contact the national postal service of your country with questions about your package after it has left the US.

I live in the UK and my package has been marked as delivered, but it did not arrive here. What do I do now?

This is a common occurrence with packages shipping to the UK. When the package arrives at the local Royal Mail office, they will send the recipient a gray card informing the recipient of any customs fees (including VAT) due. They typically mark the package as "delivered" at this time. You must pay the customs charges before they will release the package. If you did not receive a gray card, please contact your local Royal Mail office to determine the charges due.

Please note that they will only hold the package for a limited amount of time before they return it. If it is returned to me, I will refund the purchase price for the item(s) in the order, but shipping is not refundable since those charges will already have been paid.

Can I send an order to someone else as a gift?

Yes, enter the name and address of the person to whom you would like the gift sent in the shipping address portion of your order.

If the recipient of this gift will be in the UK, please make careful note of the instructions above. It is important to let the recipient of the gift know to expect this gray card and that they will be required to pay these charges in order to receive the package.

Custom and personalized orders

I accept custom orders in order to design a new piece or modify an existing jewelry item or accessory to better meet your needs.

Please note that I do not have the equipment to cut or shape my own stones at this time, so all custom work will require the desired stone is available from one of my suppliers in the desired shape, color, size, and stone type. In addition, I have no control over the number of breaks or the break pattern that results during the breaking process, so I cannot accept custom orders for a specific breakage pattern of any kind.

To initiate a custom order request, please use the Request Custom Order button in the left sidebar on Etsy for us to discuss whether your request is one that I can fulfill.

Can you repair my item using kintsugi techniques?

I do perform repairs of people's broken stone items, but I only repair stones (not porcelain, ceramic, or other materials) at this time.

In order for me to determine whether your specific item is one that I can repair, please send at least one good photograph of the broken item in a custom order request using the Request Custom Order button in the left sidebar on Etsy. From that, I will be better able to determine whether it is a repair that I can perform and to send you quote for the cost of the repair.

Do you offer any discounts?

Please see the Shop Announcement area at the top of the main shop page (http://AKintsugiLife.etsy.com) for all coupon codes currently available for discounts.
