Falling in love with Dad's Trade

Cicada Jewelry Design is a family owned business, with decades of experience, specializing in high end custom work. Each piece is crafted with care and only the highest quality is acceptable. We believe that beautiful jewelry should not cost the earth, nor should it be mass produced or run of the mill. But it should leave a legacy, for those who wear it and those who help to make it. That’s why we only use genuine gemstones and precious metals to make our jewelry. This passion and energy translates through the jewelry and that's the only thing that counts.

I took a little snippet of this article I wrote about my introduction and beginnings of my life with Jewelry.

"...The earliest memory of my father’s old workshop was in his first building on 6th street in Downtown, L.A. (the building looks just as miserable today as it did back when my father opened his first shop). I remember hiding under a work bench and grabbing a hand tool. I inserted a diamond burr into the drill, going with the pedal, as it spun at high RPMs, and ran the burr along a piece of onyx slab that was lying around.

My father’s business boomed in the 1990s. He eventually got out of that terrible building and moved into a nicer one down the street. He was now responsible for 10 employees. I always spent my spring and summer breaks at his workshop. I hung out in my mother’s office, drawing my favorite comic book characters. When the day was done and the employees clocked out, I would venture through the shop and look through the company safe so I could examine the glass trays of organized gemstones.

I’d just lose myself in the refractive light that each transparent stone radiated. The stones danced for me with their brilliance under the light. Sometimes I would sneak stones out of the safe, go to a bench, rev up a hand tool, and have a go at it.

After some time, my father expanded into the realm of creating jewelry designs. He would build lines for companies, incorporating his knowledge of gem cutting and lapidary into creating masterpieces. Business was booming. He had jewelry designers coming through the door asking him to build their lines for him. He had the opportunity to pick and choose his customers. He once worked with a designer named Lena Wald, and their collaborative cigar band ring line ultimately took off. At one point their work showed up in several publications, including a spread in Vogue featuring their creations stacked on top of each other, like some unearthed, glorious statue.

My father loved working behind the curtains, running the creative process, not caring that his customers got all the glory..." - to read more of my story, visited the website at:

Accepted payment methods

  • Money Order

Returns and exchanges
I do not accept returns! Please be 100% certain you would like to purchase the item before commiting to the piece. Ask me questions about the item if you are not sure about something. I can give you store credit at the very least but I would try for it not to get to that point because I'd make sure you are satisfied with everything. If you read my 'Welcome Message' right above this, the process of how we communicate and the constant flow of information being shared would almost guarantee a non returned item. If you're not satisfied with the piece, I'd be more than happy to fix the issue on the item to get it up to par to your liking.

All Custom, altered, personalized items are non returnable.

Please, if you have any questions regarding any item in my shop, please feel free to contact me so I can assist you with your inquiry. Thanks!
