About

CindiHale's Ceramics Shop

I fell in love with clay seven years ago during my first ceramics class. There was just something magical about creating a small animal from a lump of clay, using only my two hands. I started by sculpting my first dog, then a bear, then a procession of creatures followed one after the other. Many ideas were suggested by my family and friends. My son said; "Hey, Ma, how 'bout a hummingbird?" Hence, my hanging hummingbird ornaments were hatched!

I eventually branched out into some functional hand-built pottery, added a bit of the human form, and have recently begun to experiment with gouache acrylics as an optional finishing technique. Custom work has also begun to interest me and I'm enjoying the challenge of capturing the likeness of a beloved pet.

My work "studio" is our laundry room, where I stand and sculpt on top of the clothes drier. When I'm tired of standing, I pull over a chair, sit down, open the drier door, and stick my feet in!! Pretty unorthodox, but it works for me. While I'm sculpting in my "studio", my hubby is usually right across the hall, working on his digital art. We are each other's best critic and support team!
