About

Victorian-inspired modern jewelry design in New York City.

Growing up, I loved the intricacy and delicacy of the Victorian and Art Deco jewelry, buildings, and clothing I would see in period films. But in the local stores, I never could find any accessories resembling those styles that were high-quality, affordable, and versatile enough to wear with modern clothing. Years later, I had moved to New York City and had big dreams of wheeling and dealing, getting a corner office in one of those big skyscrapers. One of my internships was in the jewelry district and one fateful night after work I stepped into a shop with all kinds of vintage Victorian and Art Deco metal findings. I was thrilled at the creative possibilities that came to me. I taught myself to make jewelry and made the kind of pieces I'd always wanted to wear myself, ornate but modern, well-made but affordable. When I learned to create filigree through precious metal wire crochet, a whole world of creativity and design possibilities opened up. Friends and family were supportive and enthusiastic, so Cindy Penguin Jewelry was born. I love my new creative entrepreneurial career, experimenting with new architectural forms of jewelry that you won't find anywhere else. Check back often, I'm always cooking up new designs!

Care instructions

Genuine Pearls: Many of my pieces use genuine freshwater pearls. These pieces require a little extra care. Apply makeup, hair spray, and perfume before putting on your pearls, and try to avoid having the pearls come into contact with these substances. Never use jewelry polish on pearls.

Sterling Silver: Sterling silver may tarnish (lose its shine) over time, This is a natural reaction caused by impurities in the air. A standard jewelry polish or dip should restore the piece's shine. If you keep the jewelry in a sealed ziplock bag, it will help slow tarnishing.

Goldfilled Wire: Jewelry made with goldfilled wire and chain very rarely tarnishes. If for some reason it does look dull, a standard jewelry polish or dip should do the trick.
