Celebrating Beautiful Places: At work, at home, and across the world
Matt and I met in graduate school for city and regional planning. We shared our mutual love of traveling and cities, while falling in love with each other. Now we are married and Matt is an urban designer/landscape architect working for a well-known, local consulting firm, and I work for our state's economic and community development agency coordinating financial incentives for redevelopment projects.
As most do in our profession, we spend much of our 8-5 life working with, and for, cities, developers, business owners, property owners, politicians, you name it. It requires an occasional biting of the tongue, saying yes (while secretly saying 'NO!'), and quiet grumbles upon hanging up the phone or leaving the room.
We love what we do, but the limitations of what we are able to do and say in our day-to-day lives with bosses, clients, and customers can occasionally lead to frustration. :)
We created our website, www.CivicArtsProject.com, as a way to share our enthusiasm for awesome places with no one to answer to but ourselves! Over time it has evolved into a space for us to share our travels, photos, and most importantly the stories behind some well-known and not so well-known (but always fascinating) places, spaces, and pieces of art throughout the world.
It's fun for us - a release from the demands and pressures of professional life while still serving to advance our professions and greater communities. We want everyone to feel the passion and pride for their community and surroundings the way we do. And maybe by sharing these facts and photos, we can help make that happen!
Whether you have an emotional connection to a place that we write about, or you just love the vivid colors in a photograph, we offer a number of our photographs for sale here in our Etsy shop and are always adding more. Enjoy!
