About

It began with a gift of a crocheted hat.....

It started when I tried to find a scarf to go with a walnut-dyed hat that my friend had made for me. Too long, too short, too thin, too wide, not the right color or texture. I'll make one, I thought. I've made scarves before. So - I did. I loved it. My friends loved it. My girls loved it and wanted me to make some for them. I found that it relaxed me and helped my arthritis. Now, I'm knitting my fingers to the bone and enjoying every minute of it. Trying out new yarns, textures, thickness to make individual scarves that you don't find in a department store. My scarves are soft & comfortable and easy care for today's busy lifestyle.

The shop is named after my grandmothers. I truly wish they were here, along with my mother, to give me their advice, recipes that they used, gardening tips and about life in general. Grandma Clara was a farm wife who made THE best chicken & noodles and homemade pie. She also played the piano, painted and told the best stories. Grandma Ruth could make something out of nothing. She was always crafting, stitching, crocheting, and sewing. When I was a little girl, she made a whole wardrobe for my Barbie dolls. I had the best dressed Barbies in town with their beaded evening gowns, fur coats, suits and dresses. My mom knitted, crocheted, sewed, gardened & canned, tole painted and created decorated eggs, like the Faberge eggs. All the family talent trickled down to my granddaughter who is an artist. Her work has been seen on "Cake Boss", "Sharpie" and now a band from England wants to use one of her drawings for an album cover. She's only 15 and totally amazing. I have always been one to be busy whether it's baking, creating, gardening or "fluffing my nest" as my daughter calls it. Any talent I have comes from those before me and I'm learning more each day from those who come after. They all make my life worthwhile.

I hope you enjoy the scarves as much as I've enjoyed creating them.

Welcome to ClaraRuthScarves! All scarves are hand knitted by me with care and love. I absolutely love making them!! I do have a stove insert on the fireplace which I use all winter but the doors shut & lock so there's no smoky smell like a fireplace. Just an FYI in case you have any sensitivities to wood smoke.
