I have been looking and looking for an extra special card for my friend's 50th birthday and this is PERFECT! It's obvious it was made with tender loving care. Thank you!

Penchant for Paper

I have always liked making cards and working with paper. In fact, I can't remember not creating with paper. In grade school, I used all of my grandmother's paper baking cups to design hats. About the same time I went through an entire small notebook that I filled with my personal wallpaper designs. In third grade I made paper dolls the whole year instead of learning important things like my multiplication tables. (I did master multiplication tables but that had to wait until fourth grade when I wasn't the teacher's pet anymore.)

As an adult my penchant for paper continued. I learned calligraphy and hand lettered signs, I designed theater costumes for college productions and program covers for the city symphony. No matter what job I did or groups I joined, my artwork skills came in very handy. I guess all those hours as a child spent drawing and designing paid off.

Making cards was just something I did sometimes for fun. I think I became more serious about making cards when I turned over commercial cards to the backs and saw how expensive they had become. Now I only send handcrafted ones. They take more time to create so I don't suppose, in the end, I'm saving money if you consider the time spent but I am personally satisfied and so, too, are the people who receive them.

Often when I send my cards I get return phone calls about them so I suppose people like to receive handcrafted cards more than commercial ones. Very often recipients also tell me the cards are keepers, too.

Until recently, I had cards in another of my Etsy shops but they were lost among the knitted hat and scarf sets, sewn wallets and purses, and cute little sock babies. I decided the cards needed a place of their own so I launched ClaudiasCards as a standalone shop.
