Why do I do this?
Keramiek als medium kiezen is een kleine daad van verzet tegen hiërarchieën die kunst boven ambacht plaatsen, en een poging om die grenzen te vervagen en zo momenten van verbinding en contemplatie te creëren. Het werk draait om zorg, liefde en het herwinnen van creatieve autonomie. Keramiek met de hand vormen is fysiek en bewust werk, volledig geworteld in menselijk contact. Tijdens het werken aan een stuk denk ik voortdurend na over wie het in huis zal halen, of aan een geliefde zal geven, of hoe ze het zullen gebruiken... eerlijk gezegd denk ik na over hoe ik de gebruiker of de kijker het beste van dienst kan zijn. Het is allemaal liefde. Deze stukken zijn gemaakt voor gedeelde ervaringen en inclusiviteit, niet voor dominantie of accumulatie. Het is mijn oprechte hoop dat elk stuk dat ik verstuur iemands leven raakt en het een beetje mooier maakt.

Choosing ceramics as my medium is a small act of resistance against hierarchies that place art above craft, and seeks to blur those lines in order to create moments of connection and contemplation. The work centers care, love, and the reclamation of creative agency. Ceramic handbuilding is physical work, and mindful work, grounded completely in human touch. The entire time I'm working on any piece, I'm thinking of who will bring it into their home, or give it to a loved one, or how they might use it... honestly, I'm thinking of how best to care for the user or the viewer in some way. It's all love. These are pieces made for shared experience and inclusion, rather than dominance or accumulation. It is my sincerest hope that each piece I ship touches someone's life and makes it just a little bit nicer.
