About

Creating calms my spirit and feeds my soul.

I've always loved making things. Even as a little girl--from cutting out paper dolls to making a “go-cart” with a car tire and a skate board (didn't work BTW). But whether my creations work or not, it’s the process in creating them that I enjoy. Not giving up, but getting up and trying again. The process calms my spirit and feeds my soul. Now I have found clay and it is such a fun medium, whether it's polymer clay with it's myriad of colors or metal clay with it's beauty and bling.

Bright colorful designs have forever inspired me, from Portuguese tiles, Mexican pottery, Dutch Delft, Italian glass, and closer to home Laurel Birch and Mary Engelbrite. The colors and designs excite me and the possibilities are endless.

Making canes in polymer clay is very time consuming. One simple cane can take a couple of hours to make and a more complex cane can take six or more hours to make. However, although it is very time consuming, it can also be very rewarding to finally see the end result. To begin any design, I start off with a block (2 oz) of a solid color of polymer clay. That clay is then combined with other colors and manipulated into a roll called the "cane." This process is fashioned after the Venetian glass technique called "mille fiori" which means "a thousand flowers." The final design is perpendicular to the cane so that each slice is identical to the last, allowing me to cut multiple slices with the same design.

I've just recently added metal clay to my arsenal. Although very different from polymer clay, I love it! I've been making a lot of pendents and earrings. I use Precious Metal Clay. The clay consists of microscopic pieces of pure silver, water, and binder. With this clay I design and make my piece, let it dry, sand and refine it, and then fire it in a 1200 degree kiln. When it's done I brush it with a steel brush, put a patina finish on it, burnish it, and then finally polish it. Beautiful and so much fun! When the piece is finished it is 99.9% Pure Silver. All of the impurities, binder, and water have been burned away. I'll accent some pieces with 22 k gold.

My hope is that people will be blessed by my work. That is will bring a smile to their face and a spring to their step. Each piece is one of a kind and is handmade.by me.

Thanks so much for visiting!
Blessings!

I've always loved working with my hands and creating things. I discovered polymer clay around eight years ago and have loved it ever since. I've now added metal clay to my arsenal and love the elegance, beauty, and bling!
