About

Lisa Boucher's Adventures in Clay

My first experience with clay was in pottery class at CVU high school in Hinesburg, VT. I remember wanting to just hang out in the art room and play with clay all day. We used the wheel a little bit and did some hand building. Several years later while living in Florida, a friend gave me a pair of porcelain earrings and suggested that would be a great idea for a small business for me. It took some experimenting, but eventually I was making and selling my ceramic earrings, necklaces and various wearable art. I took part in some of the local craft festivals, and hit the road selling my wares from St. Augustine to Key West.

Since moving back to my native New Hampshire, I was asked to revive the pottery program where I work at Merrowvista. I learned how to operate the kiln, began making functional pottery, and trained the summer staff to run the pottery interest group which continues to be a favorite with our campers.

Snowflakes, flowers, autumn leaves, dragonflies, mountains and the seashore have been some of my best-loved themes. In addition to my jewelry, I've added shawl pins to my collection, and ornaments have been a popular item that I make every year for the holidays.

For years I used low fire earthenware clay and painted very detailed designs with underglazes. A whole new world opened up when I was introduced to high fire clay by my pottery teacher Sally Cornwell, and I began using stoneware and porcelain for my jewelry and ornaments. I love with the effects of the high fire glazes.

In recent years I've been focusing mostly on making ceramic components which I encorporate in my macramé and wire work. I've also made them available in my shop for other designers to use in their pieces. My finished jewelry, pendants, beads and components have been published in Jewelry Stringing, Step by Step Wire and Beadtrends. A highlight for me was having my Autumn's Allure bracelet on the cover of the September 2012 Beadtrends magazine!

I'm a member of New Hampshire Made, and several Etsy teams. I'm especially active in the AWEteam (Artwalk Etsy team) and the Etsy Mud team. I hope you'll enjoy browsing my shop, and please don't hesitate to convo me if you have any questions!
