At the heart of my work is Story!

I have always had my hands in paint, clay, glue, and glitter. (And according to my mother - even shoe polish!) When my girls were born I made them matching dresses, all three kids had awesome Halloween costumes, and I made quilts for those chilly nights in Colorado.
As a 7th grade English teacher I poured my creativity into putting on Shakespeare festivals, teaching creative writing, and filling my room with art and poetry. Since I have retired from teaching, jewelry is a passion - shiny silver jewelry! Now, however, I find myself painting more and more.
Jewelry, for me, has always been a way to tell the world my story. When I was young I wore a jade necklace my grandfather brought me from Alaska. It was unique and came from a far away place. It said I was unique and maybe would go far away someday. (I did go from Southern California to Colorado!) As a teenager I wore a funky antique ring my artist aunt gave me. It was rather gothic looking and suggested that my story was mysterious, and that I was a bit edgy - at least that is the story I told myself. When I started creating my own jewelry it was important to me that my pieces had meaning and helped people tell their stories.
While I loved telling story with jewelry by choosing design and texture, I longed for color! Smearing my fingers with paint quenched that longing, and the story telling is limitless. I love the style of folk art because it tells the story of "folks." I am an avid collector of tales and love to have people share their stories with me.
I chose the name Clever Crow Studio because the crow is a symbol of creativity, and, of course, they love shiny and colorful things! Take a look at my shiny and colorful things, and if you don't find exactly what you are looking for, let me know, and I can make you a custom order.

Hmmm - How does one write a bio in 250 words when one is in their 60's! So here goes: Southern California, art, Colorado, art, 3 kids, art, 3 adorable grandkids, art, dogs, art, public school teacher-30 years, art, nature lover, art, art, art...

Welcome to my shop! I make jewelry featuring fine silver pendants that I handcraft using precious metal clay (PMC). PMC has pure silver particles combined with a binder to make a clay substance. All the silver in the clay is reclaimed or recycled, so it is eco friendly. I fashion the clay to the design I want, fire it at 1650 degrees in my kiln, and polish and shine for the perfect finish. After firing, the piece is .999 fine silver. I sometimes inlay tinted cement in the piece and/or add beads or other embellishments. I choose designs that help people tell their own unique stories

When my daughter was married in the fall, I created beautiful leaf necklaces for all the bridesmaids. My youngest daughter just had a western wedding, and I made her a beautiful horseshoe necklace that she designed. I also made her matching earrings.I would love to work with brides to create fine silver pendants that match their wedding themes. Give me a convo!
