Clockwork Art: Artist, Curator & Animal Rescue Advocate

Hi, I'm Braden Duncan (a.k.a. Clockwork Art), a full-time, self-taught watercolour artist & curator based in Seattle, WA.

I love painting animals, and I plan to take over the world with the strange & the adorable. My current bodies of work feature watercolour & ink critters with whimsical, fantastical, mechanical, macabre & pop culture accoutrement.

I'm an animal rescue advocate (with a soft spot for cats), and I help raise funds & awareness for animals in need. I'm the co-founder of the Seattle Arts Coalition, the exhibitor coordinator for Sea-Meow Con, a member of the international Strange Dreams Surreal Art Collective, and I regularly assist with curation & art installation for galleries across the Pacific Northwest. I can usually be found covered in watercolour, oil paint, engine grease & cat hair.

Thank you so much for stopping by - my kitties & I appreciate your support. :) If you enjoy monthly rewards, discounts, exclusive sales & behind-the-scenes photos, I invite you to support me on Patreon: www.patreon.com/ClockworkArt

Cheers!

Shipping
I currently ship on Mondays & Fridays. Please let me know in advance if you need your purchase expedited.

In stock items normally ship the following business day after receiving your cleared payment (excluding weekends & holidays). Some items take longer; please refer to individual listings for details.

I offer FREE domestic USPS 1st Class shipping for orders over $35! For orders under $35, Etsy calculates shipping cost based on your location (both domestic & international). Please select the option that most closely matches your order, as this will determine the accuracy of your shipping cost. I'm happy to arrange a free local pick-up if you're in the Seattle area.

Please make sure your shipping address is up to date! Unless you request otherwise, I ship to the address provided by Etsy. I have no way of recovering packages that are delivered to obsolete addresses, and there will be additional fees if I need to re-ship your order.

CUSTOM PORTRAITS are shipped via USPS Priority Mail unless otherwise requested. All original artwork is matted & shipped flat with stiff cardboard backing & insurance is included for free. Please allow 6-8 weeks for completion of custom portraits (depending on my current queue & travel schedule) & 2-4 days for domestic shipping.

PRINTS, CARDS, MAGNETS, STICKERS & PINS are shipped via USPS 1st Class Mail unless otherwise requested in either rigid or bubble mailers. Prints larger than 11x14 are wrapped in tissue and shipped rolled in a tube.

My items are handmade and (with the exception of prints, cards, magnets, stickers & pins) one-of-a-kind. If your item is delayed, lost, or damaged in shipping, I cannot always replace it with a new one, but I will do my best to work with the Post Office to resolve the problem.

⚠️ TO MY CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE THE US ⚠️
USPS has temporarily suspended shipments to multiple international countries and can no longer guarantee arrival times for any international orders. More info here: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm

Commissioned portraits are shipped with insurance via USPS International Priority Mail, and usually take 6-10 business days for delivery. USPS International Priority Express Mail is available for an additional fee upon request, and usually takes 3-5 business days.

Prints, cards, magnets, stickers & pins are shipped via USPS International 1st Class Mail, which can take 10+ business days. Expedited shipping is available for an additional fee upon request.

I cannot be held responsible for any international customs fees, taxes, duties, or tariffs that you may incur past the point of sale. These fees are not included in the shipping price (I have no way of calculating them) and are the sole responsibility of the purchaser. I likewise cannot be held responsible for shipping delays due to international customs; I have no control over packages once they leave the United States.

The Post Office is the most reliable (and affordable) international delivery service I have found. If you have any questions concerning delivery of your international purchase, please use the tracking # on your Etsy receipt and contact your local Post Office.

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept commissions? Can I purchase a custom portrait for a friend?

Happily! As long as it fits in with my style & recent bodies of work, and you have reference photos ready *before* you place your order. Please visit the Custom Pet Portraits section of my Etsy shop for more info on sizes, pricing & my process.

Please be aware that I will not pester you for photos, and if you're purchasing a portrait for a friend, it is not my responsibility to contact your friend for photos. Your order will be delayed if I don't have pictures to work with at the time of purchase.

Where can I buy your original (non-custom) pieces?

Original pieces are available exclusively through galleries, conventions & my personal web shop:
https://www.clockworkart.com/store/c7/Original_Paintings.html

If you don't see the piece you're looking for, it's either already been adopted or currently on display at a gallery. I encourage supporting small businesses, so feel free to contact the galleries for more info on pieces in their care.

Where can I see your art in person?

Conventions & galleries! I (normally) travel frequently for comic cons, horror shows & cat events, and I love supporting local businesses!

Why do you watermark your Images?

Short answer: It makes it harder for art thieves to download & profit from my work without my consent.

Long answer: Art theft is rampant in the online community, and I've had my images stolen more times than I can count. Not only is it illegal to use artists' work without our permission, art thieves threaten our livelihoods by exploiting art lovers & stealing sales that would otherwise support actual artists.

If you see my work (or the work of any other artist you recognise) on a site that doesn't properly credit us or link back to our websites, it's probably being used illegally. Please let artists know if you come across stolen art so we can report the offenders & file official DMCA take down notices to have the stolen art removed.

Can you change the colour of this print for me?

No. I cannot accommodate custom colour changes or any other adjustments for prints, cards, magnets, stickers or pins. I am a traditional watercolour artist, not a digital artist, and the pieces I've already created are intended to remain as is. I am happy to create an original commissioned piece if you'd like something a little different.

Do you combine shipping for multiple items?

Yes! I offer free USPS 1st Class shipping for orders over $35! For orders under $35, Etsy calculates shipping based on your location & the lowest Post Office price available. You're welcome to contact me if you have any concerns.

Do you offer less expensive (letter-rate) shipping?

No. I ship all of my items - from single postcards to custom original watercolours - in rigid or padded mailers designed to keep them flat & protected.

In my 15+ years of shipping experience, I've unfortunately found that items sent in standard envelopes come with no tracking options & run a higher risk of being damaged in transit. It's important to me that every item reaches you as safely & securely as possible.

I agree that USPS 1st Class rates can be high for single items, which is why I offer free shipping for orders over $35.

Do you ship internationally?

Normally, yes! However...

⚠️USPS has temporarily suspended shipments to multiple international countries. While I can still technically print shipping labels, USPS can no longer guarantee arrival times for any international orders. ⚠️

More info: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm

See my Shipping Policies for more info on international shipping during normal times.

I haven't received my package yet. Can you track it?

Unless otherwise requested, I ship prints, cards, magnets, stickers & pins via USPS 1st Class Mail. 1st Class is scanned for acceptance & delivery, but 'in transit' info is rarely available.

1st Class normally takes 3-7 business days in the US, but the pandemic has been known to delay delivery times up to 2-3 weeks (domestic) & over a month (international). If 3 weeks have passed & you still haven't received your package, please let me know & I will work with you, Etsy & USPS to resolve the issue.

I do my best to keep shipping prices as reasonable as possible (FREE for orders over $35!), but the trade off is less reliable tracking. If you prefer a faster, more trackable service, you can upgrade to USPS Priority (starting at $8).

Do you offer wholesale for retail shops?

Yes! While Etsy no longer supports wholesale accounts, I happily offer wholesale pricing for prints, cards, magnets, stickers & enamel pins.

If you represent an art space interested in carrying my work, feel free to email me directly - clockworkartshop(at)gmail(dot)com - with a link to your shop, and I'll send you my wholesale price list.
