Zero waste, costume inspired and one-of-a-kind fashion. Welcome to our shop!

Hi, my name is Bex and I run the social enterprise clothing brand Clothing for Change.

I make garments that take inspiration from costume and period clothing and use couture sewing techniques to create a classic distinct style with a modern twist. Each piece is handmade and completely unique using vintage embroidered silks sourced from specialist dealers. No fabric is wasted and any leftovers are reused to make appliqué & patchwork in new designs.

I keep my production small and sustainable creating collectible and timeless outerwear that can be worn for generations.

~ ABOUT OUR CHARITY WORK ~
Clothing for Change was set up as a fundraising initiative for the charity Foundation for Change who run courses for individuals in recovery from addiction. Our approach uses applied psychology, philosophy and feminist theory to help people understand the root causes of their addiction not just from the perspective of personal experience, but – importantly – within the wider context of social inequality. Both of these have a powerful, de-stigmatising effect and help people let go of much of the shame they carry about their pasts.

ALL PROFITS FROM THE BRAND ARE DONATED BACK INTO OUR WIDER CHARITY WORK

Frequently asked questions
Returns & Refunds

You can return any item for a full refund within 7 days of receiving your original order, but please send the garment back undamaged, we take a lot of pride in offering our customers the very best of quality and service, so reselling it in its original condition is very important.
Shipping will have to be covered by the buyer if returning the item and we don't refund the buyers original postage charges

Care instructions

Some items are dry clean only & some can be hand washed. Silk that has been embroidered or hand painted should be dry cleaned only.
The vintage silk I use to make our clothing is durable and very good quality so holds up well to water and ironing. Definitely contact me if you need further instructions as all items are slightly different but mostly I would recommend dry clean only, the delicate texture of the silks means a lot of the garment can't be washed by machine. Hand-washing works just as well though and once dry iron on a medium heat either on the front or back.
Why wash it anyway, these items are very loose it really doesn't need regular washing at all, just use a damp cloth to remove dirt!

Vintage silk... Is it in good condition?

Absolutely, yes! The price of each individual item reflects the quality of the vintage silk and fabrics. Some items which have a fair amount of age staining are listed at a permanently discounted price. In each listing description you will find this information under the header of 'FABRICS'.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need more information on this.

I have sensitive skin, will vintage silk irritate it?

First of all I don't wash the silk, I air and then dry clean it before using it to make our items. Those with sensitive skin (like myself) shouldn't have any reactions but please bear this in mind before purchasing. Some items are made from silk made in the 1940’s.
I source the silk from vintage kimono sellers so I don't know the exact history of how the kimono were stored before I got them. Maybe some owners were smokers or kept pets, as soon as I receive the kimono I air it out and then dry clean it. This is also why I have a 'no quibble' refund policy, please return any items if you aren't completely happy with.

Sustainability

I only make one of a kind, zero waste pieces that are made from designer deadstock fabrics and vintage textiles. All orders also come sustainably wrapped.
This is incredibly important to me and the ethos of our shop.
