Etching Nature, Down the Shore

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by to learn more about me and my passion for the beach life and graphic design- the true genesis of Coastal Ember.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (hello fellow yinzers!) and made the move to the Jersey Shore right out of college. I had a great job opportunity with a firm I had interned with the summer previous to my graduation from Penn State University and fell in love with the idea of living and working just blocks from the ocean’s edge. I studied Landscape Architecture which proved to not only be a great way to be in touch with nature and the environment, but has also given me a creative outlet that I never realized I would love. Growing up, I would have never considered myself interested in the arts. I avoided extra art classes in high school like the plague and stuck to science heavy courses. It wasn’t until college when I started using computer design programs and getting more heavily into graphic design through my major that I discovered my passion for digital media design. While at Penn State, I was heavily involved with THON, which is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. I worked to design the merchandise that the organization sold for two years and that gave me great experience in designing logos and branded material for printed products for a large audience. Along with this came an interest in photography which only heightened when I studied abroad in Spain and Germany. Traveling to over 13 different countries during my two international stints, I constantly had a camera in my hand working to document as much of my travels as possible.

Then came graduation and my move east. I really only knew the people I would be working with but no one else in the state of New Jersey. Needless to say, I had a lot of free time outside of my 9-5. I began to occupy my time by creating graphic prints for fun and photographing local beaches near me. As I got more practice under my belt in designing these graphics, I decided to take the next step and launch Coastal Ember. I specialized myself in wood engravings and wanted to take a specific interest in custom pieces.

Fast forward a few months, and I was really able to call the shore my home. I had met more people and no longer needed a GPS to get to the grocery store. I just felt more at peace as everything was falling into place. Luckily, over a year later, I still feel the same passion and lust for my beach lifestyle and have felt myself not only grow as an individual but become more comfortable and confident and sharing and expanding my work. I continue to work on building my name and local identity as a small business in the small shore towns which has really helped to make Coastal Ember an exciting journey to start, maintain, and cultivate. Raising this small brand into what I dream it will become one day is what drives this passion project of mine and I am so happy I get to share warm, salty vibes with you all!

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I love doing custom orders- they are my favorite part of my job! If you have something specific in mind, let’s work together to make it happen. I also love finding unique wooden pieces and adding a personal touch to them. You can find these in the Custom Finds section of my shop. They are all unique and will be one of a kind. Message me with any questions you may have, I will respond as quickly as I can!

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift wrapping is available! I typically use butcher paper, twine, and a personalized wooden gift tag. I will always message the customer an image of the wrapped gift before I ship it to ensure complete satisfaction. I am happy to wood engrave a personalized card as well, please just add this to your order under the Occasion/Seasonal shop section. Any question, just send me a message!
