About CoastalScene
Living In the Moment from Charleston South Carolina
I wish I could think of something profound to say here, but today I am at a loss, so I will just describe my approach to photography. These images are created with some planning but primarily result from some occasional good instincts about lighting, composition, and color.
Now some would call that bad planning, but I try to live in the moment, so it works for me. On the night of the Super Moon last summer, I had planned to frame the moonlight and shrimp boats on a local creek. While I did have some good results, the most stunning image in my opinion came from the exact opposite direction. On that night, a wonderful thing happened. The moon blasted light into the clouds and was complimented by the city's own artificial glow, making an envelope of color and contrast that reflected it's magic on the water. It was a brief moment, but I was fortunate to notice the phenomena and point the camera in that direction. It's possible that we often do a great deal of sensory censoring when we are too focused on executing a plan, so it's wonderful to just go with what feels right in that moment.

I was given a Zeiss Contax IIIa Rangefinder by a remarkable man named Roland Green for safekeeping. He had no idea what a profound effect that camera would have on my life. I live and work in Charleston SC.
