Functional, Fun, Creative Environments For Your Pinchy Pals!

Welcome to Coenobita Curiosities! Samantha began her journey with hermit crabs well over a decade ago. We met back in 2016. One day we were cleaning her crabitat and I became curious about the little guys. We both began doing lots of research only to find out we were doing everything wrong! We improved the crabitats and noticed an increase in activity and growth. As we became more knowledgeable about hermit crabs we became more and more comfortable with what we can and can't do with our crabitats.

Samantha and I started make our crabitats move visually appealing for us while creating interactive and enriching environments for our hermit crabs. We are currently caring for around 40 + hermit crabs that were adopted, rescued, and purchased over the years. We have several captive bred babies that were born in 2018, several large tennis ball sized crabs, and everything in between. We also care for Purple Pinchers, Strawberries, and Ecuadorian's. We use all of our creations inside our crabitats before . Our crabs seem to enjoy our handcrafted items. We are sure your Coenobita's will be Curious to try them as well!

For more information and proper hermit crab care techniques please visit these helpful sites:
Hermit Crab Association
Land Hermit Crab Owners Society
Always remember to please adopt and don't shop!

Please note that we are not an approved sell on either of the above mentioned websites. They both offer great care and advice. We base a lot of our care and ideas from both groups.

Hi! I'm Fleabag! I like to poke around the shop and sneak into pictures. I wondered why hermit crabs like to live in big litter boxes. Then my buddy Crusty told me they love to eat poop!

Frequently asked questions
Are your items safe for hermit crabs?

We use all our products in our crabitats. We use commonly used items that are considered safe by several popular hermit crab groups. Natural jute, aquarium safe silicone, aquarium safe stones (not dyed), natural shells (no dyes or bleach), crafting mesh, egg crate and foods are always organic when offered or otherwise noted.

Will my hermit crabs use your products?

We wish we could say yes! They all have their own likes and dislikes. We have seen our own crabs using everything we offer. Not every crab uses everything. Sometimes it takes several weeks for crabs to realize something is there. Be patient and give them time.

Can you do custom orders?

Yes! We can make any width and length rope within reason of course! Send us a message for pricing. We plan to offer custom background in the future. We just aren't there yet.

Why don't you ship to__________?

We apologize! This is very new to us. We want to get comfortable with shipping before we expand international. Nothing would make us happier than to know our products are loved by crabs world wide!

Why is your shop called Coenobita Curiosities?

Coenobita is the genus in the scientific name for hermit crabs. It also reminds us of the Cenobites from the movie Hellraiser. Our Curiosity Cubes also remind us of the Lament Configuration, the puzzle box from Hellraiser. We love horror movies, haunted houses, oddities, and other macabre stuff! Coenobita Curiosities seemed perfect!

What No Free Shipping If I Spend $35? What's up with that?

We keep our shipping prices as low as possible. On average one decorated pot is $8 or more to ship within the US. That would be almost a 25% cut from a $35 purchase. We would need to increase our prices or stop selling certain items. That would make Fleabag sad!
