Frequently asked questions
What is "hook and loop" patch backing?
Hook-and-loop backed patches have the "hook" side of the hook-and-loop fastener system sewn on to the back of the patch, and many tactical backpacks, some standard backpacks, and many military uniforms have a patch of the opposite "loop" material sewn on so one can swap out patches on their gear.
Of course, some people just pick up some loop material from the craft store so they can add a hook-and-loop-ready spot to any piece of gear or clothing.
With an area of "loop" fabric on your gear/clothing, and some hook-backed patches, you can swap out patches on your stuff as you desire.
Iron-on Patch Instructions
Make sure your garment is clean & freshly laundered (including new items).
Set your iron to "COTTON" at 400 degrees, and let it warm up for five minutes.
Thoroughly iron the area of the garment where the patch will be placed.
Place patch on garment, embroidery facing up.
Place a cloth or light towel over the patch, and using a slow circular motion, press the iron firmly for 30 seconds over the patch.
Next, turn the garment inside out, and iron the back of the patch for 30 seconds using the same slow circular motion.
Let everything cool down for one minute. If edge of patch can be lifted, repeat step 6.
*Do NOT use on fabrics that are not iron-able (fabrics that have a low melting point) such as nylons, vinyls, or leathers.
I want to sew on a patch. Which patch backing should I buy?
Iron-on patches can be sewn on, in addition to being able to iron them on.
