Cognitive Surplus makes designer science gifts using sustainable materials.
We are a minority woman-owned and led small business. Our inclusive workplace provides meaningful full-time jobs to adults with disabilities. We stand for sustainability in all our actions from the products we make to the energy we use.
All of our products are designed in Central Oregon, in our combined studio & warehouse space. We work with manufacturing partners in the USA and internationally to build our products according to our specifications and designs.
My husband, Geoff, and I set out to create a stationery and lifestyle brand to celebrate the intersection of our passions – his for design, and mine for STEM, ultimately building Cognitive Surplus: Science Meets Design. We began making beautiful, science-inspired goods with environmental and social sustainability among our core tenants. We have won awards for both our green practices and our inclusive workplace where 50% of the people we employ have a disability.
Our DNA:
We know that it’s your hard work and strokes of genius that push humanity forward, and we build the tools to fuel your brightest ideas.
We appreciate that it isn't always glamorous and that breakthroughs are a lot harder than in the movies. We know how it feels to basically never feel like a superhero, especially when it seems like the answers are anywhere but in your data. We also know that for every failed experiment, late-night, and cold cup of coffee, you're helping light the way toward progress, and it's because of you that each day is a little brighter than the day before.
We make stationery and lifestyle goods to inspire you in your work and all along your journey, so you can find answers to important questions, and solutions to complex problems.
