I've been doing this for HOW long?!?

Writing this makes me feel so old! D:

When I started making this particular style of kitty eared hats in 2006 I was the only one on Etsy doing them. I'm pleased to say that mine are still better than most of the other ones you'll find. The only reason I can afford to sell them at this price point is that I'm apparently crazy fast. I charge based on how long it takes me to make them at $20/hr. Well, I charge more when I use expensive specialty yarn.

(There are, of course, some people doing amazing, higher-end ones than I do!)

I've been crocheting for over 20 years and have found that it's the perfect way to make television bearable. All my hats have been made watching goofy movies or marathons of Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Downton Abbey, Red Dwarf, etc.

A few years ago I was doing a craft exchange with some of my online friends. I got assigned two people with multiple cats and a love of the anime Sailor Moon. It was pretty obvious what I had to do.

I have now sold something like 1000 of these hats at craft shows, anime conventions, and here on Etsy.

Someday I'll figure out how to do bunny ears, and then I will take over the earth.

Despite the ridiculous fees, I very much prefer Paypal or Etsy as a payment method. I am happy to accept checks and money orders. If you have another method of payment you would like to use, please use the "Conversation" feature to ask me about it and I will consider it.

I request that you pay immediately if you are using Etsy or Paypal, and that you mail checks/money orders the same or next day. If you are unable to do so, please contact me. I'm willing to wait a bit so long as I know what's going on. Otherwise I may cancel the sale and that just gets confusing if you try to pay after that. :)
I do work full time, but the post office closest to me is open until the unheard-of hour of 9:30pm. This means that ready-made items should go out the same or next business day, while items that need to be altered may take up to two business days to go out. Custom orders may take longer depending on circumstances.

I ship first class (or parcel post for heavier packages) with the USPS. If you would like Priority or Express service, delivery confirmation, insurance, or anything else extra, please convo me so I can figure out how to not overcharge you.

I will happily ship to most foreign countries, but the buyer must beware of customs fees and the reputation of your country's postal service. Because I will likely be closing the shop down again once my current inventory is gone (I have arthritis in my hands, so making more would be difficult for me,) I will not be shipping to EU nations. There are too many regulations that I won't be learning but don't want to flout. If you live in a non-EU country that isn't set up in my shipping settings please let me know and we'll figure it out.
Refunds and Exchanges
Okay, these are hats. You don't want to be sold a hat that someone else has been wearing. That sounds pretty icky. And I can't afford to eat the cost of refunding items returned because someone changed her/his mind.

If your item is damaged or otherwise defective, please get in touch with me about a refund or exchange.

If you feel you have been misled about the size of your hat - I'll admit, if I'm stressed out I tend to use smaller, uptight little stitches and that can affect the fit - please contact me about an exchange or tips on how to resize your hat. (Machine washing will stretch it, for example.)
Additional policies and FAQs
I'm a single mom with a full-time job. I will put up custom listings as I feel my schedule will allow, but I also apparently have arthritis so it won't allow it often.
