About a year ago I set a goal of making 100 hats for cancer patients in three months. I exceeded my goal, making 132 hats which I sent to MD Anderson. I had so much fun doing it that I decided not to stop.
CommonsThread is about letting people know you care. Cancer is a devastating disease. I chose it because of the effects it has had in both mine and my husband's families. For every four hats I sell, I am able to donate a hat to a patient with cancer. These hats will be sent to patients at MD Anderson and Texas Children's Hospital. If you know of other hospitals who would like to receive hats, please feel free to contact me by email.
I crochet as a stress reliever in the afternoons. I flip on some Anthony Bourdain, visit with my husband, watch my dog run around the living room, and crochet until I fall asleep. I've been making hats for friends and family for several years now, and I thought why not combine my love of hat making and the joy of charitable giving.
I use quality yarn that is both durable, soft, and vibrant. These hats are not just fashionable, they are functional as well. Functional doesn't mean boring. I tend to pick colors found in nature as well as a few exciting colors for a bit of sportiness or pizazz. I am happy to take on requests, and answer any questions you might have about sizing or colors. I hope you enjoy my little shop. Please come again soon!
I am an high school art teacher who makes hats as stress relief after a long day at work. Weekend adventures of hiking, kayaking, skydiving, and cycling inspire many of the color schemes for my hats. Thank you for taking a peek! I hope you enjoy!
