About

From costume designer to purveyor of vintage clothing and accessories....

Greetings from Denver, Colorado USA. My name is Deborah. I live and work in a Victorian cottage in the heart of old Capitol Hill Denver, close to the home of the notorious and much celebrated Molly Brown, the "Unsinkable" survivor of the Titanic. By day I am an artist, a pastel painter, and also a drawing and painting instructor at the Art Students League of Denver. The banner that you see across the top of my shop page is a detail from one of my paintings. By evening I transform into an avid collector and purveyor of vintage clothing and accessories. I come by the latter naturally as painting is my second career, my first was as a costume designer for the theater.

For several decades I designed clothing for musicals, modern dress intimate theater and elaborate Shakespeare productions. I studied and taught costume history. I still remain an avid scholar of all things sartorial and a collector of antique and vintage clothing. It has become my passion to refurbish and restore these lovely and valuable items from the past and it is my great pleasure to offer collectible and wearable garments and accessories from my ongoing, ever growing collection to my valued customers on Etsy. Please feel free to contact me if you are looking for a specific item. It may well be that I have your heart's desire stashed right here in my studio.

Welcome to the Costume Consortium. I offer you a little respite from this frenetic high tech world as you browse through my collection of antique and vintage costume treasures. Just for a moment enjoy a stroll on the grounds of Downton Abbey, join the usual suspects on The Orient Express, be the glamorous mysterious Brigid in The Maltese Falcon or be Sam Spade himself. Create your own costume drama. Enjoy.

Payment
I am happy to accommodate the payment method that is best for you. Please contact me if you would like to send a money order or personal or business check. Sales tax is applicable on purchases made in Colorado and Denver sales tax is collected on purchases made in Denver.
Shipping
The shipping rates quoted for any particular item at The Costume Consortium are based on current USPS First Class/Economy and USPS First Class International rates. I am always happy to accommodate individual shipping needs so please feel free to contact me if you would like expedited shipping. The Costume Consortium picks up the additional expense of insurance on expensive and valuable items. I endeavor to find the most economical and when possible "green" way to pack and send your shipment. Often for small items a padded envelope meets the best criteria. Jewelry is often shipped in gift boxes protected by a bubble mailer. Delicate textiles such as vintage linen handkerchiefs ship in small packing boxes to protect them from undue crushing in transit. Your package is shipped within one to three business days of payment received and cleared. I am happy to ship Internationally. Duties and Customs charges are the responsibility of the Buyer.

For the Holiday Season I am happy to ship your gift directly to the recipient and to offer free gift wrapping as a Holiday thank you for your purchase from The Costume Consortium.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase so if for any reason you would like to return your item I will refund your purchase and original shipping charges. The item must of course be in the same condition as sent and shipping, insurance and confirmation expense as well as loss and damages incurred during the return will be the responsibility of the buyer. I will be responsible for any loss of or damage to your shipment sent from the Costume Consortium.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please note that the vintage/antique items that I offer are from 40 to 100 or more years old and "good condition" for such an item is relative. I do my best to disclose all wear and tear. If you have questions about size or condition of an item please feel free to contact me for detailed information and more photos. I welcome my fellow costume designers and costumers for film and theatre. I am happy to extend a professional discount when possible. If you are searching for something specific please feel free to ask. My vintage stock is extensive and only a portion is listed at any one time.
