The Story of Cottonwood Drive

We are a relatively young recently-retired couple who have taken our collecting very seriously through the years. While we are new to Etsy, we are hardly new to on-line selling. At times, through the years, we find we have more than we need and/or that our needs have changed. And so some of the treasures we have collected need to go to new homes where they can once again be utilized and appreciated.

Our previous ventures in on-line selling were very successful. Not only because of the items we offered but also because we pride ourselves on great customer service. We like good communication, we like to pack well, we like to be as fast as possible in getting packages shipped out. We especially like always treating people the way we always want to be treated ourselves.

And so, here we are again, although using a new venue, Etsy, to offer a number of our extra items to the public. We are, after all, serious collectors and need to thin out our collections every so often. So we have once again begun the process of opening boxes, crates and bins, taking photos, writing as accurate descriptions as we are able, proof-reading time and again. Waiting for that special someone who finds one of our items just that perfect treasure, someone who will love and appreciate that treasure as much as the original owner or as much as we did when we acquired it. Maybe even more so ...

With the state of the economy and at least several postal rate increases since our last on-line venture, we found Etsy to be the perfect venue. The low listing fees help to keep our prices stable. We are always ready to negotiate on multiple purchases, to give our Customers the best deal possible. And we like to charge actual shipping costs without added mark-ups for handling or shipping supplies.

Visit our blogs to get a better idea of who we are and what we like and how we like to do business. We are also, for the first time, chronicling our start up in this present on-line venture and will occasionally offer additional photos of items there as Etsy only allows five photos per listing at the moment. As one might have already guessed, we want our Customers to know what they are getting and to be happy with their purchase, as well as the process and time in getting that purchase to their doorsteps.

The Etsy Shipping Costs shown in your Etsy Shopping Cart are the result of the Etsy Shipping Calculator which can and does reflect Inaccuracies, ESPECIALLY when Purchasing More than One Item at a Time. The Etsy Calculator also will not reflect domestic USPS Priority Flat and Regional Rates which can be less expensive especially with Cross-Country. Welcome to Cottonwood Drive. We are a recently-retired couple who has found a great and growing joy in our collecting through the years. We both have collected almost all of our lives -- and especially since our marriage, we have engaged in very serious collecting. In that way and others, we were made for each other, as our families like to say.

We have found collectibles and treasures we like from nearly every era, from the 1800s and earlier through the Victorian Age through Mid-Century up through the 1980s and early 1990s. Occasionally, we "thin out the herd" and so we offer our extra treasures and collectibles to the public via on-line selling.

While we are new to Etsy, we are hardly new to on-line selling and have had successful on-line ventures through the years through other venues.

We believe in treating people like we want to be treated. For you, The Customer, that means the best possible service we can offer: from timely responses to emails, to accurate photos and descriptions, to secure packing and fast shipping.

So our Customers can have the maximum amount of enjoyment from their purchase(s), we also provide basic care recommendations when appropriate either from information on the item itself or from our long years of experience.

On occasion, we may offer lay-away for certain items and hold them, at times with a nominal non-refundable deposit. Please write and tell us your circumstances and we will try and work with you the best way we can.

Additional photos may at times be available on one of our blogs since Etsy allows only five photos and in some instances, that may not be enough to give a potential Customer an accurate description. We want our Customers to know exactly what they are getting and we are more than happy to assist any Customer with their purchase decision.

Almost all, if not all entirely, of our items are Vintage. Vintage means older, usually owned by others before it is to belong to someone new. Vintage may not be -- and usually isn't -- perfect and we try our best to inform our Customers of any "vintage patina" specific to any particular piece. If someone is looking for "new." then Vintage probably is not for them. Occasionally we will offer New Old Stock (NOS) with price tags still attached, but please keep in mind that these items also have been around for sometime and have had previous owners.

➦ PRE-PURCHASE COMMUNICATION:
We do not sell "on approval." All sales are final. No returns are accepted, no refunds will be issued. Customers should contact us with any questions before purchasing so we can give the Customer the information they need to make a wise and informed purchase. If we don't feel the Item will meet the Customer's expectations, we will say so. That is how we have always done business. Honesty is the best policy, even if it means not making a sale.

We want our customers to be happy and to have a reasonable expectation of what will be arriving on their doorstep. Keep in mind that since most of our Items are Vintage, they are by definition not "brand new" and may not be "perfect," and although we strive for only the best in quality, some Items may show normal age and wear. Although we make every effort to point out any flaws in any Item, please keep in mind that we are offering Vintage, not perfection.

➦ REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT "VINTAGE" ITEMS:
Almost all of our items have come from estates. We take care of them the best we can while they are in our possession, however we cannot guarantee that they were never around smoke, other odors and/or pets. We will not issue refunds or accept returns for those reasons under any circumstances as we feel this is a reasonable expectation when purchasing any Vintage item.

Many of our items are stored with dryer sheets (mostly lavender-scented), stored in closets with mothballs and/or cedar so they stay fresh and safe, not to cover up any smoke or other odor a Customer might notice that we did not detect while the item was in our possession. If someone is allergic to pets, smoke or other substances which may be considered a possibility with any pre-owned Vintage item, they should consider purchasing "in person" or purchasing "new" instead. When we state there are no rips, tears, holes, etc., we are stating the condition of the Item in the present tense. If an Item has had repairs in the past (and the repairs were performed properly), we usually do not have any indication of this situation.

While we do launder and clean what we can, for items which need Special Care, we recommend that our Customers have those items Professionally Dry Cleaned or Professionally Leather Cleaned upon their delivery/arrival as we do not provide those types of services.

➦ RESOLUTION:
No package leaves us without being Fully Insured for Loss and/or Damage. Should this be the case with your Item, send photos of the Item (if damaged) and save all packing materials, etc.

All packages are INSURED for loss and/or damage occurring during shipment for the full amount of the purchase price and shipping costs. Although we pack as carefully as possible, should an unfortunate incidence occur, save all packing materials and the item(s) (in the event of damage), take photos if possible and contact us as soon as you are aware of the issue. As the seller and shipper, it is our responsibility to file the claim with the insurance company and ensure the claim is represented properly. The Customer may be requested to fill out a very short on-line affidavit to verify the claim. The insurance company will reimburse us for any valid claims and we will at that time make a refund to the Customer. If the Item is damaged and the Customer chooses to have it repaired, a repair estimate should be obtained as soon as possible after photos have been taken of the initial damage. In the event of un-repairable damage and/or a not feasible repair, we may request the Item(s) be returned to us by the Customer prior to refunding the Customer for the completed claim.

All Sales are Final. Our Items are non-returnable, non-refundable. We do not issue refunds on shipping to and from for any reason. Should a Customer decide to send an Item back to us, the Customer will pay the current shipping to have it returned to them again and we still will not give a refund to the Customer under any circumstances.

We photograph each item right before shipping in the event of an insurance claim, so we will know if any damage occurred after we have placed it in the care of the shipping entity.

➦ SIZE AND FIT ISSUES:
We provide as accurate measurements as possible for clothing and other items. We will answer any questions any Customer has about size and fit and measurements before their purchase. After purchase and receipt of the item by the Customer, we will not give refunds or accept returns due to size or fit or measurement issues. We ask that the Customer be realistic about the size and fit and measurements of the Items they are seeking. We would rather not sell an item than sell one that doesn't fit a Customer or any intended recipient and/or their specific needs.

➦ ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS ON INTIMATE ITEMS:
We will issue absolutely no refunds nor accept any returns on any intimate wear such as vintage stockings, girdles, etc.

➦ REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT "HAND-MADE" ITEMS
We have recently begun offering hand-made items which are created and/or altered from Vintage or Newer Recycled Clothing. All Policies and Conditions for these Items are the same as for the Vintage Items we offer (see REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT "VINTAGE" ITEMS above).

➦ LAY-AWAY and Items on which DEPOSITS and/or PAYMENTS are made:
If an Item is placed on Lay-Away or a Deposit and/or Payments made for an Item with the intent of paying the remaining balance due in a pre-arranged purchase plan, if the Customer decides NOT to purchase the Item for any reason, the monies already paid will be available back to the Buyer in the form of a Shop Credit only. Shop Credits may be used at any time for any Item(s) and do not and will not include the Price of Exact Shipping which the Buyer must remit separately. Shop Credits can only be used towards the Purchase Price of any Item(s).

➦ EXACT SHIPPING CHARGES:
We utilize the Etsy Shipping Calculator, however on many Items we estimate shipping costs in the Listings although we still charge Exact Shipping Costs and Will Refund any Shipping Over-Payment when the Shipping Label is Created if the Customer has not Contacted Us beforehand for Exact Shipping Costs to their Particular Location.

➦ Shipping Prices shown reflect Each Individual Item and USUALLY DO NOT REFLECT Multiple Purchase Shipping Rates for Items which can be safely shipped together. Customers should Contact Us for Exact Shipping Rates for Multiple Purchases. In the event we find a Customer has Over-Paid for Shipping, we will Issue a Refund to the Customer's account at the time the Shipping Label is created. We do not charge for packing, handling and shipping supplies as we believe that should all be built into the overall cost of doing business.

➦ MULTIPLE PURCHASES ("WITH ANOTHER ITEM") SHIPPING:
Our items are all different sizes, shapes and weights. Some, such as vintage greeting cards, are the same. Please refer to the listing to see if the Multiple Purchase rate applies to Multiple Purchases of same or different items. We will combine shipping whenever possible and give the Customer the best shipping rate we can find.

➦ PAYMENT INFORMATION:
As a Payment Method, we accept Etsy Direct Check-Out and Etsy Gift Cards. If either of these Payment Methods pose an issue for you, contact us to work out possible other arrangements. Payment is due at the time of purchase unless we have agreed to another arrangement before the purchase is actually made. We can (and have) also arrange payment plans for our higher priced items.

➦ INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS, PLEASE NOTE:
For Customers in countries other than the USA, please write and ask for shipping charges, We only ship internationally with Delivery Confirmation. Rates may differ from country to country and delivery times can also vary. Please write for an Exact Shipping Quote for your particular country. Please also be aware that we cannot be responsible for packages delayed due to Customs or any shipping entity once it leaves our hands as its transit is effectively out of our control, although we do periodically track our shipments to ensure they are in transit to their destination. Any and all Customs fees, taxes, etc., levied by the Customer's particular country is solely the Customer's responsibility. Should a Customer decide not to pay VAT, Customs Fees or other Fees levied by their respective Countries and/or not make arrangements with their local Post Office to retrieve the package and the package is returned to us, we will NOT issue a Refund for the Item or Shipping costs under any Circumstances. Please familiarize yourself with your respective Country's Import policies and delivery policies before purchasing.
Shipping
Listed shipping rates do not necessarily apply and are based on Estimated Shipping Costs, especially when purchasing multiple Items. Contact us for Exact Shipping Rates. Customers who do not contact us beforehand will be Refunded any Shipping Over-Payment at the time the Shipping Label is generated.

There are many variables in today's shipping rates including USPS Select Parcel, Priority, Priority Express, Priority Regional and Priority Flat Rate. We generally use the least expensive and fastest method possible based on actual packed weight and size of the package. Again, when we find a Customer has been over-charged for shipping, we will refund the difference at the time the shipping label is created. We pack extremely well and ship via the best means possible taking the price of shipping into consideration.

We do not charge extra for handling or shipping supplies. We believe those expenses should all be built into the cost of doing business. We use recycled and/or other inexpensive or free packing materials to keep the cost of our shipping supplies as low as possible -- while still ensuring that the Customer's purchase is packed safely and securely and will arrive intact to our Customer even with the roughest handling.

We may occasionally offer items which must be shipped separately to avoid any possible damage during transit, These items will be designated as such and will not be subject to any combined purchase shipping rates we can offer.

Most of our items can be shipped to destinations within the USA by USPS with Delivery Confirmation and insurance. Occasionally, very light items being shipped to a destination within the USA can be sent via First Class Mail. Shipping insurance and Tracking is mandatory. Should an order be lost or damaged in shipment, save the Order Item(s), the box and all packing materials and contact us immediately so we can send further instructions and file an insurance claim.

Larger items or heavy shipments because of multiple purchases may be better shipped via UPS or FedEx, depending on the overall size of the packed box and weight. We will work diligently to find our Customers the best and least expensive shipping method possible without compromising the safe and secure packing of their purchase.

If a Customer needs to have their purchase in-hand as soon as possible, we will work with the Customer to find the best and most reliable way of getting their purchase to them sooner than normal. We cannot and will not be held responsible for any package once it is in the hands of any shipping entity (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.) as if there is a delay due to weather or human error or other factors, it is obviously beyond our control.

We will ship to registered Etsy addresses only, so the Customer should check that the address they have on file with Etsy is accurate as any package returned to us will be subject to having shipping charges paid by the Customer again. If you are shipping a Gift directly to the Recipient, please add their name and address to your Etsy account before purchasing.

As with any transaction, good communication is the key to knowing what to expect on the Customer's end as well as ours. When our Customers are happy, we're happy. What more could an on-line seller ask for?
Additional policies and FAQs
➦ RIGHT TO DO BUSINESS, RIGHT OF REFUSAL:
Should Customer payment not cover Shipping Costs to their location, a total refund will be issued and the Sale will be canceled. We reserve the right to cancel any sales to any country which does not offer legitimate Package Tracking and Delivery Confirmation. We also reserve the right to cancel any order in which we feel the Customer is not a good fit for the item(s) purchased and/or in circumstances where we feel that completion of a transaction will not result in mutual satisfaction on the part of the Customer and of us, the Shop Owners and/or when we feel, at our sole discretion that the Customer and our Shop are not a good fit, which includes but is not limited to past or present rude and/or insulting and/or unseemly and/or threatening and/or ungracious behavior exhibited by the Customer.
