Announcement   I have decided to reopen with my jar candles, breakaway melts and and salves only until I can find a new home where I can create a separate work space. Some of my cold process soaps will be available in mid September. If there is one in particular that you like let me know and I can whip it up. I will be working on quilted table runners/toppers, placemats, and primitive holiday items. My 89 year old mother has had to move in with me and I just do not have the room to go back to everything. Turns out that the 6 acres I was in the process of buying had a drain tile going onto the land I was buying - draining farmland runoff. Not a place I want to live let alone grow plants to use in my products. So the search goes on. I love knowing where and how my ingredients are grown and finished before being sold.

I use only certified essential oils in my body care products - no non certified essentials or fragrance oils. Candles do have fragrance oils that have essential oils in them also.

Greetings and welcome to Covington Creek Candle Company located in Historic Fort Wayne, Indiana. My philosophy is to bring you premium local and organic products. I have over 200 fragrance oil scents-fragrance oils do contain man-made chemicals. I have several style candle jars and now featuring wicks made of wood in the 4 and 8 oz travel tins and the 8 to 16 ounce glass container.

The lotion bars/salves are preservative free. My handcrafted cold process soaps are created in small batches to ensure you receive the best product possible.Cold process soap produces a denser soap that does not dissolve as fast as a heat processed soap (heat creates air bubbles that stay even as the soap cools letting it dissolve at a higher rate). Soaps are made with natural ingredients and I always use organic when possible. Essential oils are not diluted with the exception of the Jasmine that is infused into grape seed oil at the manufacturers. Creates an economical way to get that great scent and the skin benefits of the grape seed oil.

Another great article in Fort Wayne Monthly August 13, 2012 edition about my candles! http://fortwaynemonthly.fortwayne.com/?q=blog/2012/08/13/spotted-around-town

My thanks to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette for the honor of being the only candle company that they recommended to its readers (in the Sunday, Oct 2, 2011 Living Section front page) for Autumn scents! Here's the link for that article. http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20111002/FEAT/310029996

Also my thanks for the great article about my company published in the Fort Wayne News Sentinel. This article focused on a green life and how I am striving to produce organic and natural products using local ingredients. WEDDINGS: Have you thought of giving one ounce soaps (I can do heart shaped), soy or beeswax votive as wedding favors? I have seen a huge increase in this in my regular website and now here on Etsy. They are a great natural, renewable and inexpensive wedding favor. A great addition to the "green" wedding or party. Soy votive are a great way to go.

My products are not available for wholesale and fundraising at this time but hopefully will be again in the future. Everyone today is concerned with maintaining or improving his or her health. Your target audience will appreciate the fact that you offering a healthy product. All ingredients are natural and/or organic. The exception is some fragrance oils Most of my fragrance oils do contain essential oils also but pure essential oils have EO after the name. All are renewable resources. The glass containers can be recycled. Better yet - point out they can be refilled with lotion, liquid hand soap, etc.

About

How I got started in this.

First off let me say that my inspriation comes from nature. I love the outdoors and want to work as much in harmony with it as possible. If we all do that what a great place this would be to live for everyone.

I work as an intensive care nurse and realized afte talking with many of our senior patients that come in with respiratory issues in the colder months that they burn more candles during these months. I started checking into parafin candles benefits and nonbenefits. Turns out there are more nonbenefits. I checked into soy candes for even just myself. That was 6 years ago and I couldn't believe the cost. I took 6 scents into work in the month of October thinking some of my coworkers would like to buy some. I sold over 200 candles in 6 weeks. I looked around fro a suppier of wax and oils. Found one about 3 hours away. At first I shiped to my home but at $15.00 a case this really added up. I started making trips to get the wax - cost savings was huge - plus a great chinese restaurant on the way. I started with a few craft shows, then farmers markets and now have them in seveal stores. So this is how my business was born.

I started looking at waht went into lotions one day and realized I wanted a more natural lotion. I found a base recipe on the net and curtailed to what I wanted in a lotion. Not just softening but healthy for me. This has been a hit at work. I love the lotions bars - many of the same great oils in my lotions but no preservatives are needed as no water is used. This Fort Wayne made lotion is really gaining popularity.

Next came the soap making. A old friend of mine makes great soap but on the basic side. I wanted one with some of the wonderful oils I use in my lotions so this craft was added to my rapidly growing business. Many say it is the best Fort Wayne soap made and swear they will not use anyone elses.

Then I started looking at scrubs. Hence the clay mask and almond meal scrub (apricot meal is available for those of you with nut allergies but is a little more coarse.) I am all about saving time and this mask scrub combo cuts one step out of my face care routine.

I want to welcome you to my little shop. I love helping others. That is why I became a nurse. I have learned how much damage we inflict on our bodies and souls with the everyday contaminates and stress. This is how I came to start Covington Creek Candle Company. I started making 100% soy candles first for myself and then for my co-workers. Pretty soon the patients would hear talk of my candles and how clean they are to burn with the 100% cotton wicks and essential oils that I can do. The patients started buying them from me. This lead to craft shows and then a farmers market where my product caught the eye of the local food co-op. I strive to use the best product I can find. I buy as much USDA organic as I can find. I check out the companies to make sure they are buying from growers that are responsible in cultivating and sustaining the earth and the wildlife. I take living green very seriously and practice it in my own life. You can rest assured that I will get you the best products I can to contribute to your well-being. By each of us practicing this we can live a life a little healthier and with a little less stress. I have remained a home based business, which means everything is done with loving care. It is my hope to gain enough business that I can put to work some of my friends who have lost their jobs. Quality and care would and will remain our priority.

To get the best burn time on any candle burn no longer than 3-4 hours.

Light the wick with a spagetti stick (yes it's ok to light the stick with a lighter or match). This avoids that black ring from the petro in the lighter or sout from the wooden match. Plus you can reach deep into those tall candle jars.

Do not leave burning candles unattended. Do not leave burning candles or the glass containers within a childs or pets reach.

Do not use the lid to estinguish the flame.

As with all things in life some people may find a allergic reaction to an ingreadient in the candles, lotions, soaps and lip balm. I do take care in chosing the ingredients that I use and post them in product information. The only exception is the votives that have botanicals added at the manufacturers to give a firmness of the product. If you have any allergies to botanicals please use this product with care. So far no one has had a reaction but if you do you do have an allergic reaction to any products (mine or someone elses) stop using the product and seek medical attention. I, nor this business, are responsible for any costs accrued by you.
