Personalized and Custom-Made Shadowboxes, Keepsakes, Gifts, Party Favors and more.
In medical school I had very little time for “creative endeavors”. Forget crafts, forget poetry. Writing? Nope. Reading? Only if it was a medical textbook. I was so involved with medicine and so in love with what I was doing that I really didn’t miss crafting.
I met my husband in my first year of residency and little did I know that our wedding would get me back into crafting. Being on a resident’s salary (which I promise isn’t much), I did many of the decorations myself so we could save money. I made the party favors, place cards, place card holders, our wedding card box and our own guestbook using a wood guitar that we had people sign (we have the guitar on display in our house). I realized I loved doing this stuff and that I truly missed doing it.
When I finished residency I had a lot more time on my hands; no more
80-hour work weeks! I became a little shadowbox-making machine! If it was your birthday you were getting a shadowbox. Just had a baby? Here’s your shadowbox. I even made all the centerpieces, party favors, invitations and the décor for my father-in-law’s birthday party.
I developed my website www.craftsbycamille.com (still “in progress”) as a way to showcase some of the things I’ve made and to teach others how to do the same-if they like.
I never intended to sell any of my items, but I’ve gotten such positive feedback on the shadowboxes and keepsakes I’ve made, that I decided to open myself up to creating them for others as well.
All of my crafts are custom made by me. Being somewhat obsessive-compulsive (can’t help it, most doctors are like that), I take great care in producing a final product that is well made. I make a little bit of everything, but I’m willing to explore more avenues. If there is something in particular you would like me to make for you, I would be more than happy to do it, even if I’ve never done it before.
Despite my love for crafting, I still work as a doctor full-time. I find that balance is extremely important. I absolutely love my career and I've worked hard to get where I am, but I also let my creative side play.
So, let's play!
