About

Celebrate the heartfelt moments in life

Hello and thanks for popping by to read a bit more about me and my shop!

At Craft Fairs and Open Studios event the question I'm asked most is "How did you begin paper cutting?" To start with I felt a fraud telling people that I fell into paper cutting completely by accident, but that's the truth........and I'm a rubbish liar, my face goes red!

So if you're sitting comfortably I'll begin........I've always made my own Christmas cards and a couple of year ago the ones I made were paper cuts, but I didn't know that.....I thought I was just being a bit "arty"!
After Christmas a friend, who'd received one of my cards, called for a catch up and said "I didn't realise you'd started paper cutting, how did you get into that?" My reply was "Am I? What's paper cutting!" As soon as we'd finished chatting, I went straight to the laptop and Googled "paper cutting" and I was astounded as all these beautiful designs and images popped up on my screen and I couldn't believe that I'd never see or heard of this amazing (and very ancient) art before!
The following Spring my cousin got married and I searched high and low to find a beautiful, unique, personalised gift go give him and his beautiful wife. I didn't want to "just" give them a present. I wanted it to be something for them to keep and treasure. As my search grew more fruitless I thought back to those paper cut images and I wondered if I could make them something to treasure.......and I did!
It took quite a bit of sketching and a couple of trials but my very first paper cut was born! I was so pleased with myself I showed it to anyone who visited our house! A friend asked me to make one for a wedding she was going to and my business grew from there!

I work from my studio in our family home in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. It's a fairly small space that houses my drawing board where designs are drawn and cut and a longer bench where I screen print. I also share the room with the piano and my eldest son is constantly telling me "It's not your studio Mummy it's MY lego room"!!!

Each one of my designs has been inspired by the words contained within it. Each fragment of text speaks about the important "big" things in life, the things that really matter; love, family and friendship. I also love positive, uplifting quotes filled with hope and the endless possibilities of being.
Each one of my images begins life as a hand drawing which fills it with idiosyncrasies and gives it a character that no pixel can replicate, as Margaret Kilgallen said "my hand will always be imperfect because it's human.......And I think that's where the beauty is." told you I love a quote! The image is then hand cut; no laser cutters, no die cutting machines, just me, my scalpel and a bit of patience!
My screen prints are also produced, by me, in limited edition runs and because of the nature of screen printing small variations occur between prints making each one special and unique.

I hope that by lovingly handcrafting each one of my designs, I create a more honest, meaningful and soulful piece of work that resonates with you. Making them something truly special and unique to be given with love and treasured for a lifetime.
