Learn the Joy of a Simple Circle

~ I began my shop to bring more hoops to the masses! People of all types discover that -YES- they can hoop if they just find the right hula hoop for them! ~
I'm always available to answer questions here on etsy or via Facebook, twitter, or tumblr.

Plus sending out hula hoops all over the world is all part of the plan!

Custom orders welcome.
I love coming up with new concepts in my home studio where I work. Tape, fabric, and whatever tools are available to me inspire me to make new creations to wear or play with.

"Let hula hoops be your meditation on the joy of a simple circle."

Hula hooping has changed the way I see myself. When I first picked up a hoop on a summer day in 2008, I was smitten. Since then I have been falling in love with this -- is it a dance? a sport? a game? -- exercise for my body, mind, and spirit. When I am spinning around inside a hoop I am in my own world.

The most fun for me is helping others to find what hooping means for themselves! It can be a metaphor for all of the daily ins and outs of our lives. live it. love it.

Beyond hooping I also enjoy sewing, creating different types of art, writing stories, and blogging. Feel free to follow Crafty Squid on facebook, tumblr, and the web at

"Collapsible" hoops have two connectors that allow the hoop to be stored in a folded position. They arrive in travel mode but should be stored at full size to avoid warping. Instructions:

I want you to be happy with your purchase, so communication is important! There are lots of options involved with hoops, so let me be your guide in choosing the right size, weight, and color! - Amanda [!at]

Hula hooping is a great workout that is fun and easy for everyone! Adults need larger hoops than kids, so if you have any questions about the right size for you, just ask. In general: The height of the hoop should come from the floor to your belly-button. The larger the diameter of the hoop, the slower (and easier) to keep it going around your body.

Height of hoop/belly button in inches
36" or less = Small, advanced fast hooping or for shorter folk
38" = Medium, intermediate hooping
40" = Large, beginner
43" or more = Extra Large, slow rotations
Still confused? Contact me!

I now have a listing in the shop for a child-sized hoop:

Made with thin, durable 1/2" tubing
26" = Smallest, very young children
28" = DEFAULT kid's size, "general" age 5-10
30" = Large: for beginner children
32-36" = Extra Large: bigger kids and preteens, smaller than adult hoops
